Introduction to the job

The EXE Systems are built according to a production process where the EXE is split up into multiple Main Modules (modular building), reducing cycle time as Main Modules can be built and qualified in parallel.

Once qualified these Main Modules will be internally transported to a cabin or directly shipped to our customers. In case of shipment to cabins, the Main Module can become part of a Full Functional Machine (FFM/system). This entire system is assembled, tested and qualified before being dismantled and leaving the cleanroom towards our customer.

In case of drop shipment to the customer, the Main Modules will be shipped to our customers after assembly and passing the Factory Acceptance Test. Final Assembly and System Qualification will then be executed in the field, at the customer site, instead of in Veldhoven.

EXE (EUV Factory) Manufacturing is responsible for the Build, Qualification, De-assembly and Install of the Main Modules and Complete systems. The Qualification department within Manufacturing is responsible for all the qualification milestones of the Main Modules and the Full Functional Machine and reports to the line manager/Team Leader.

Role and responsibilities

As a Qualification Engineer, you are responsible for the adjustment, calibration, testing and delivery of ASML products or (sub) systems according to agreed customer specifications. You will also be able to provide support when new products are introduced into the production process, identify/report expected bottlenecks, and investigate and solve technical problems—where necessary in close cooperation with other disciplines—whilst maintaining the planned delivery times and quality.

Escalate (technical) problems that cannot be solved by yourself or the team. Lay down product, process and measuring data in protocols and databases. Encourage and promote a safe working environment and work in accordance with the 5S+1 principles.

Working in a fast developing factory requires a flexible mindset and attitude, especially because the volumes are dynamic and due to the ramp up in the coming years. To optimally organize capacity, maximize learning and have an active quality feedback loop, Qualification Engineers can also help out on different types of activities.

Your other responsibilities include:

  • Qualifying Main Modules and Full Functional Machines in a cleanroom environment
  • Monitoring progress and reporting at Tier1 DK
  • Solving issues yourself or by following the correct escalation path
  • Addressing help requests via the DN/DFU process
  • Providing clear shift transfer in-between shifts
  • Initiating improvement activities regarding design, execution, instructions, measuring and test methodologies/procedures, and safety aspects (industrialization)
  • Signaling and analyzing where a problem occurs and contributing to a structural solution (in cooperation with technical departments)
  • Supporting other departments if needed depending on work demand

Education and experience

  • Bachelor in applied physics, aerospace, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or automotive engineering
  • At least 2–3 years hands-on assembly and qualification experience in a high-tech production or customer service environment (e.g., mechanical engineering, mechatronics, aerospace, electronics, or automotive engineering)
  • Experience with diagnosis of high-tech equipment
  • Proven affinity with system assembling, testing, and troubleshooting (essential)
  • Strong preference for experienced ASML Technicians, including NPI introductions

Skills

  • Flexible mindset
  • Independent, pro-active, flexible team player
  • Analytical problem-solving
  • Methodical: able to work according to standard work practices
  • Assertiveness: taking the lead in process engineering and development
  • Eager to learn and expand skills
  • Willing to train and share knowledge and skills
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written

Other information

As a Qualification Engineer you will report to the Team Leader and will work in shifts (5 shift and flexible in the field). This consists of 2 early shifts, 2 evening shifts, 2 night shifts followed by 4 days off.

Travel expectation is max 10% of the time to various customer locations (USA or Asia mostly).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
