Communications Internship

Job Summary

The GKN Aerospace Product Design Engineering Department is comprised of different teams.

In this internship, you’ll support the Product Design Engineering Department by helping energize and grow an existing Engineering Community. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our existing Engineering Community, working directly with a senior leader to infuse new energy, grow participation, strengthen knowledge sharing, and promote collaboration. As an Internal Communications Intern, you’ll lead and support initiatives that keep the community thriving—designing engaging events, managing a community hub, curating content, and encouraging active involvement.

Are you a high-energy, creative, and motivated individual who loves connecting people and building communities? Do you have a knack for inspiring others, thinking outside the box, and bringing a fresh approach to the professional world? Join our team as the Internal Communications Intern and help us keep our Engineering Community a vibrant, engaged space where ideas and innovation come alive!

What you will do

  • Drive community engagement: Collaborate with experienced leaders to energize an engineering community through initiatives that foster connection, learning, and collaboration.
  • Shape events and experiences: Help design and coordinate a yearly calendar of engaging activities, from team sessions to larger community events that bring people together.
  • Build a digital hub: Contribute to the creation of an intuitive online space where engineers can access resources, share ideas, and stay connected.
  • Co-create knowledge sessions: Help plan and deliver monthly talks with internal and external experts, ensuring each session is insightful, interactive, and inspiring.
  • Keep the community active: Develop creative content such as posts, highlights, and updates that keep members informed, engaged, and excited to participate.
  • Track impact and improve: Explore simple ways to measure engagement, learn what works best, and continuously enhance the community experience.

Why this internship?

  • Impactful work: You’ll have a real influence on the culture of a large engineering organization, with room to shape new ideas and see them come to life.
  • Creative freedom: If you have ideas on how to energize and grow a community, this is your chance to innovate and make a mark.
  • Professional development: You’ll gain experience in community management, event coordination, and digital engagement, valuable skills for many career paths.
  • Mentorship: You’ll work closely with an experienced leader who will support and energize you along the way.

What you will bring

We’re looking for a dynamic, people-focused student with a passion for creating connections and keeping communities vibrant and engaging. You’re someone who loves a challenge and thrives in a creative, fast-paced environment.

  • Enthusiastic: You bring energy and a positive attitude to everything you do, inspiring others to join in.
  • Creative: You have a flair for organizing activities and finding new ways to get people involved.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy working with people from different departments and backgrounds, building relationships and fostering inclusion.
  • Organized: You like to support the planning and execution of events and initiatives to keep things on track.

Candidates from one the following (higher) education (HBO-level) programs would be a great fit:

  1. Communication Studies: Strong foundation in audience engagement, digital communication, and community building.
  2. Business Administration or Management: Knowledge of project management, organizational behavior, and team dynamics.
  3. Human Resources: Experience in people management, employee engagement, and workplace culture.
  4. Digital Marketing: Skills in social media, content creation, and online community management.
  5. Event Management: Background in planning, organizing, and executing events with an eye for creating positive experiences.
  6. Psychology or Sociology: Understanding of human behavior, motivation, and social structures, which are valuable for building community engagement.
