About this internship

Vanderlande is a market leader in logistics process automation. Within ICT, we develop tools that help our engineers design advanced conveyors and sorting systems. These tools come together in the Engineering Suite of Tools (ESoT), with the System Designer at its core: an AutoCAD and Revit plugin used to design complete systems.

Think of it as Rollercoaster Tycoon for conveyor systems. What you build digitally is actually manufactured and installed at airports and warehouses around the world.

In this role, you’ll dive into smart monitoring, logging, and alerting within the ESoT landscape. You’ll turn operational data into clear insights and create intuitive dashboards that spot issues before they become visible. Together with software developers, you’ll help build a strong observability culture by recognizing patterns, visualizing trends, and truly understanding system behavior.

Description of assignment

The aim of this internship is to transform operational ESoT data into clear insights by building dashboards and smart alerts that improve system visibility and proactive incident detection:

Tasks/responsibilities

Telemetry Treasure Hunting

  • Collect, process and analyze logs and metrics from ESoT environments to identify useful insights and opportunities for improvement.

Dashboard Creation & Storytelling

  • Build intuitive dashboards that turn raw data into visual stories for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Alert Crafting & Optimization

  • Design and test alerting rules that are smart, actionable, and non‑spammy—improving signal-to-noise ratio for Ops and Engineering teams.

Operational Insight Experiments

  • Run small exploratory analyses to find anomalies, trends, and operational blind spots.

Share and protect the knowledge

  • Write short guides, visuals, or mini “field notes from the InsightOps internship” to help teams understand and use the dashboards and alerts you create.

Department description

The department ‘Applications Engineering’ consists of 2 teams. Team B develops and supports the tools that make up the Engineering Suite of Tools (ESoT). This is a range of different servers and applications that support the engineering process from sales to supply.

In total 11 people form Team B: 9 developers, 1 Product owner and 1 Scrum master. Backgrounds vary, seniority too, but all are very willing to cooperate and share knowledge. The student will work on his/her own project, with 2 direct supervisors but with the support of the team in an agile way.

Your profile

  • You have a curious mindset and interest in understanding system behavior
  • You are proactive, open to learn, and willing to experiment
  • Enjoys collaborating with a team of software developers

*Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System & resident of The Netherlands.
