Join Philips as an AI Tool Development Intern and play a critical role in optimizing engineering workflows that advance our health technology solutions. Over 6–12 months, you will collaborate at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence and systems engineering, developing tools that accelerate development cycles, and drive technical excellence across Philips. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, collaborate with diverse teams, and contribute to innovative solutions at a global organization.

Your role:

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to identify manual, time-consuming technical processes (e.g., Requirements Analysis and Management, Verification and Validation (V&V), Risk Management, Knowledge Management etc) that can be improved with AI solutions.
  • Design and develop software prototypes and AI models (e.g., using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs)) to automate or assist with systems engineering tasks.
  • Write clean, efficient, and testable code (primarily in Python) to integrate AI components into existing systems engineering tools and platforms, ensuring compliance with security and governance standards.
  • Participate in the data collection, cleaning, and pre-processing stages, and assist in fine-tuning AI models for specific domain-related tasks.
  • Assist in testing and evaluating developed AI tools to ensure they meet performance metrics and functional requirements.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of AI model development, system architecture, and operational procedures, and prepare reports summarizing research outcomes.
  • Continuously explore emerging AI technologies and research, and recommend enhancements to standard processes.

You're the right fit if:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Intermediate programming experience in Python is essential, with familiarity with AI/ML frameworks.
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts, including familiarity with Retrival-augmented generation, data processing, data governance, model building, and performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • You’re a self-starter who takes initiative, manages your time effectively, and can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
