Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Project manager Semicon Equipment Lifetime at TNO in Delft!

About this position

Are you passionate about driving innovation in the semiconductor industry? Do you thrive in a high-tech, multidisciplinary environment where your expertise can make a real impact? Join TNO’s Semicon Equipment Lifetime (SEL) group, a leading research team dedicated to advancing the reliability and performance of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The SEL group specializes in understanding and extending the lifetime of critical components used in chip production, such as optics and materials. We combine deep expertise in contamination control, surface analysis, and vacuum technology to solve real-world challenges for global industry leaders like ASML. Our team operates state-of-the-art experimental facilities, including a unique setup for Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography research, the EBL2. We also collaborate closely with both industry and academic partners. By joining us, you’ll contribute to projects that directly shape the future of semiconductor technology, making manufacturing more efficient, sustainable, and innovative.

What will be your role?

The majority part of our work is experimental project work. We investigate lifetime effects on optics and materials under extreme conditions similar to those in EUV lithography systems. We design and perform novel experiments with unique and dedicated setups. We then often also do surface analysis, also with setups in house. Our group is expert on all the various aspects that may impact lifetime performance.

As a project manager in our group you will manage such projects, as well as support our experimental teams to keep the various work-requests coordinated. We work in a dynamic field, so regular re-tuning/re-ordering between projects on resources is a given. As part of that, you also will have a lot of contact with our semicon-industry customers. We ask our project managers to be first point of action on that, although it is important to always team with your project scientific leads in these cases. Often you may need to work to a short deadline to re-align with our internal and external customers. We have several procedures in place to make sure this is managed well.

You will be part of a professional team of project managers. Together you challenge yourselves to continuously develop and grow your abilities, so that we all can keep bringing our best. To this end many opportunities also exist: courses, workshops, coaching, intervision, mentoring and job rotation. Also as a department as a whole we work as a team.

Our project managers work the full scope of a project, from initial conversations with the customer, to proposal definition and project execution to result delivery. In all phases we work in close cooperation with our customers. These projects will mostly involve experimental work one or more of our facilities and set-ups. You will lead small teams of scientific specialists and experimentalists, mainly in the area of physics, surface chemistry, and vacuum systems. Together with your team and in alignment with your customers, you work towards a successful result. You will manage several projects in parallel.

What we expect from you

Our ideal candidate would recognize themselves in this profile:

  • A BSc or MSc (or PhD) in physics, chemistry, electrical or mechanical engineering, or similar;
  • At least 3 years proven experience in a project management role in a high tech systems environment, preferably in the semicon domain;
  • Good people and team management skills;
  • Flexibility in your organizational and communication styles;
  • A growth mindset, and looking to develop leadership skills;
  • A structured but pragmatic way of working and a pro-active customer- and result-oriented attitude;
  • An good mastery of the English language, both verbal and written.

Based on performance, this position can be extended/transferred into a permanent contract.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3,762 and € 5,128 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 of 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • Access to TNO’s project managers guild: a network of some three hundred equals. The guild organizes workshops, conferences, intervision sessions and other activities for project managers.
  • Extensive relocation package for international candidates.
  • A good pension scheme.
