As a Financial Control Consultant, you will be responsible for a variety of financial projects, fulfilling roles as a project consultant and within Financial Control. This is an interesting and highly varied position in which you will quickly gain insight into many different aspects of the Finance organization at Ahold Delhaize.

You will join Ahold Delhaize on a permanent contract and take on project‑based assignments in Finance—such as Financial Controller, Product Owner, and Project Consultant. Your new work environment

Are you a financial controller who would also enjoy leading a major project, or a project consultant who is also capable of filling a financial control position for six months? Then this is the role for you. You will advise the business and help shape, optimize, and implement processes.

Our Business Services Finance department consists of three sub-departments, each with several teams:

  1. Financial Control is responsible for the financial administration of our brands and for managing the relationship with the external auditor and our outsourcing partner for F&A. Financial Control consists of the following teams:
    • FC Commerce
    • FC OPEX
    • FC Real Estate & Construction
    • FC Online
    • FC Etos & Gall
  2. Risk & Control is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the Risk & Control Framework for the various Dutch entities of Ahold.
  3. Finance Services consists of a consultant team and three product teams covering the wide array of retail and processes:
    • Business Process Improvement (incl. Financial Control Consultants)
    • Purchase-to-Pay
    • Record-to-Report
    • Order-to-Cash

Each team consists of domain experts who partner with the Financial Control team, our outsourcing partner, and the Tech teams. Together, they are responsible for product development and process improvement, and they serve as the first point of contact for the Finance organization.

As a Finance Consultant, depending on your own ambitions and where the needs within our department lie, you will work within these teams. At one point, you might temporarily step in for a financial controller who is on sabbatical, and your next assignment could be implementing a new tool within Finance!

Key responsibilities of your role

Financial Control

  • Responsible for the periodic closing of one of the entities.
  • Ensure an accurate and complete P&L and Balance Sheet and make sure that the figures are quickly available to the Business Controllers.
  • Contribute to improving financial control and helping the organization to become more in control.
  • Financial point of contact for the Business Controllers.

Project Consultant

  • Driving the change agenda of Finance Services NL
  • Gather inputs and help shape the vision, roadmap and project calendar for the brands; contribute to scoping of business development and innovation projects
  • Identify, align and direct plans for optimizing business processes and increase the value Business Services Finance delivers to the business
  • Monitor project progress (scope, timeline, budget, benefits), manage risks and issues, and report on the project portfolio (PMO); maintain strong stakeholder management with Business and Tech

Product Owner (in Finance)

  • Define and communicate the product vision, objectives, and roadmap for Finance products
  • Translate stakeholders’ needs into a prioritized, value‑based backlog; write clear user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Make sprint and release decisions; partner with Tech, Data, and Finance SMEs to deliver increments that meet the definition of done
  • Measure and improve outcomes (e.g., close duration, first‑time‑right rate, automation hours saved, data‑quality defects); track product KPIs

Requirements

Professional experience

  • A completed university (WO) Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience (e.g. in audit, as a Financial Controller, in FP&A, or M&A)
  • A post-master qualification such as RA, RC, RE, or RO is a plus
  • Fluency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical and financial skills; you can prepare the right analyses and recommendations based on financial reports and interpret them correctly
  • An eye for detail—you are a perfectionist—and strong communication skills; you listen well, are persuasive, and solution-oriented
  • Experience in stakeholder management; you communicate effectively at different levels of the organization and are organizationally sensitive
