About the team

The Accommodations Business Unit (ABU) is seeking an Architect to help shape the future architecture and design of our technology platforms. You will join the Accommodations Architecture and Strategy team, with a particular focus on the Partner Platform and Price-related initiatives.

About the role

As an Architect, you will provide solution architecture and design options for business (product) requirements, mapping them to technical systems in a large-scale, highly available, and distributed systems environment. You will work collaboratively with both technical and business stakeholders to deliver innovative technology solutions that address business challenges. This role requires advanced technical skills to architect complex service-oriented solutions, as well as strong soft skills to communicate effectively across the business with various stakeholders. You will also collaborate with and be supported by senior tech team members (Principals & Senior Solution Architects) to help you grow in the architecture craft.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own the design and delivery of the architecture and infrastructure required to support the Accommodation Traveler Platform area.
  • Work closely with product owners, product managers, and engineers to design, implement, and continually improve highly scalable applications and services.
  • Write architectural documentation and guidelines.
  • Facilitate architectural discussions to build confidence and alignment across teams, ensuring successful implementation of technology solutions.
  • Be an active part of the ABU Tech Community and the ATS Team, communicating and contributing to the Travel Tech pillar (ABU Tech Strategic Framework).

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to design and solve complex business problems by architecting simple, practical solutions that empower product development.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in designing, building, improving, and operating high-performance, high-availability, and scalable infrastructure that serves millions of visitors per day on an e-commerce platform.
  • Extensive knowledge of scalable distributed system strategies (such as service-oriented architecture (SOA), microservices, event-driven, or cloud-native), technologies (including load balancers, firewalls, API gateways, database technologies), and web standards (such as microfrontends, REST, GraphQL, web security mechanisms and standards).
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining service-oriented architecture (SOA), container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), services, and API models (e.g., OpenAPI).
  • Proficiency in modeling software solutions (C4 model, focusing on C1-C3 levels), design patterns, design principles, and building technical roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies such as AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to use data to influence both technical and non-technical executive leaders and drive decisions.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.

Benefits & Perks - Global Impact, Personal Relevance:

  • Annual paid time off and a generous paid leave scheme, including parent, grandparent, bereavement, and care leave.
  • Hybrid working, including flexible working arrangements and up to 20 days per year working from abroad (home country).
  • Industry-leading product discounts—up to €1400 per year—for yourself, including automatic Genius Level 3 status and Booking.com wallet credit.

Pre-Employment Screening

If your application is successful, your personal data may be used for a pre-employment screening check by a third party as permitted by applicable law.
