What will you do as a Safety & Contractor Management Lead at Vopak?

The Safety & Contractor Management Lead is responsible for providing leadership and subject matter expertise in driving the company’s efforts around safe and compliant operations. You will be leading the safety & contractor management improvement programs within the Business Unit Netherlands. The role embodies skills, judgment and knowledge to provide specialist support & governance to the different sites and relevant stakeholders.

What do we expect from you as a Safety & Contractor Management Lead?

  • Educated at HBO/Academic level, preferably technical or safety.
  • At least 5-10 years of experience in safety/operations in the (petro)chemicals or bulk liquid storage industry or other industry with similar high (Seveso) risks.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Dutch (Dutch proficiency is mandatory).
  • Knowledge of relevant SHE rules and regulations.
  • Proven experience with control of work / permit to work processes.
  • Experience with contractor and/or internal audits.
  • Good communicative (written, verbal) and social skills.
  • Willingness to travel between different sites across the Netherlands.
  • Passion for safety and the ability to motivate & mobilize others.
  • Competences: results orientation, quality orientation, problem analysis and judgment, stakeholder management, sensitivity, persistence & resilience, ownership.
  • Eligibility to work in the Netherlands.

What does your day look like?

You will be working with the SHEQ experts and other colleagues involved in the Control of Work process across the different sites in the Netherlands to develop and drive improvement programs, to mobilize colleagues and to provide knowledge and expertise to help them reduce risks. This will also involve internal and external stakeholders such as other functional departments, contractors, authorities, customers and other relevant parties.

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Develop and lead improvement programs across the different sites to improve operational and contractor safety performance.
  • Act as the Business Unit Subject Matter Expert of the Control of Work (COW) process and functional leader of the Permit to Work system. Monitor COW process compliance and adherence to corporate and local programs and procedures.
  • Provide advice and support on safety and contractor management topics to site management and coach managers and employees on how to achieve expected standards.
  • Develop dashboarding and monitor and analyze operational safety data to identify improvement opportunities and monitor progress towards set objectives.
  • Coordinate, participate and lead SHEQ related audits, and support terminals in the preparation for internal and external audits.
  • Support other BU NL departments (such as Projects, Asset Management, New Business Development, Procurement) with contractor safety and operational safety related questions.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure the quality and timely follow-up of incident investigations. Act as Tripodian for severe incident investigations.
  • Assist in the design and execution of employee and contractor SHEQ training programs.
  • Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
