Be part of progress: Join ASML’s Metrology Team

Introduction

Join ASML’s Metrology team, the brain behind our lithography systems. Metrology ensures powerful mechatronic modules work together with exceptional speed and accuracy. In this internship, you will help redesign how we model lens and mirror heating in our metrology simulator. Your work will make the simulator future-proof and enable better functionality design. If you enjoy writing clean, high-performing software for physics-based simulations, this is your chance to contribute.

Your assignment

You will refactor and extend the software around our lens heating simulator to create a clear separation between drift injection and drift modeling. This will improve flexibility and accuracy in predicting heating-induced drift effects.

  • Analyze the current lens heating simulation code and underlying mathematics.
  • Define and redesign the approach for heating drift injection.
  • Implement the new design in high-performance, unit-tested C++ code.
  • Validate and benchmark the new implementation.
  • Document your work for future development and knowledge sharing.

This is a bachelor or master internship for a minimum of 6 months (flexible based on your academic requirements and availability), 4–5 days per week (2 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of February 2026.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are pursuing a degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • Have coding skills in C++, a willingness to improve your current skills, and an interest in software architecture.
  • Are curious, enthusiastic, and comfortable working with complex code bases.
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Work in a collaborative and proactive manner.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. If you are currently living or studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university must be willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
