We are looking for a new intern!

The Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) is one of WWF’s flagship blended finance programs aimed at identifying, developing, and ultimately mobilising private finance for private sector projects targeting climate change adaptation, social impact, and biodiversity. The DFCD operates across Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia and is led by an innovative consortium including the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO, Climate Fund Managers (CFM), World Wide Fund for Nature the Netherlands (WWF-NL), and SNV, a global development partner.

Fundamental to the DFCD are the program's impact themes and use of a landscape approach to identify and de-risk impactful projects. A Landscape Approach is broadly defined as a framework to integrate policy and practice for multiple land uses, within a given area, to ensure equitable and sustainable use of land while strengthening measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change. A landscape approach is a way of managing how our actions correspond to the local context in which we operate.

WWF-NL is looking for an intern to support with activities related to the focus impact themes of the DFCD and the landscape approach. The intern will also support communication tasks and ad-hoc tasks on project management.

What will you be doing?

The intern will be part of the DFCD's Impact and Safeguards team and will work closely together with various experts. Specific activities may include:

Key activities include:

  • Working closely with our Landscape Approach advisor, support with data collection and reporting for the DFCD's Landscape Narratives. This work will help the E&S team understand the context within target landscapes across Africa, Asia and Latin America, covering themes like climate, nature, social trends, economy, local governance structures and national policies. The intern will also support ad-hoc activities related to the Landscape Approach.
  • Support the Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESSF) & Impact team with various tasks concerning the DFCD’s impact themes: Biodiversity, Food and Nutrition Security (FNS), and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI). This includes literature reviews, following the latest developments and trends, identifying and analysing best practices, and ultimately keeping the team informed of your findings. Interns are expected to proactively carryout desk research, attend webinars (or similar), and engage with relevant colleagues and internal stakeholders.
  • Support the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Lead in activities related to impact data analysis, data verification and data visualisation.
  • Support the M&E Lead in activities related to the learning strategy, this includes input from the development to assistance in creating ready to share materials for the team.
  • Support the M&E Lead in streamlining DFCD OF M&E processes.
  • Support the Communications Specialist in activities ranging from website management, social media posting, event coordination, to presentation preparation.
  • Support the ESSF & Impact Lead with ad-hoc assistance for reviewing projects.
  • Support Program Manager on ad-hoc tasks.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a master’s student with a relevant academic background (e.g., environmental science or social sciences, however, students from other disciplines are welcome to apply.) The intern must have a strong affinity with climate adaptation, biodiversity, and international development. The internship is full-time (40 hours per week) based out of Zeist, the Netherlands. The student must be available to work from the office 2-3 days per week. The student should be able to work independently and have excellent writing, organizational, analytical and English communication skills. Additional language skills are an asset.

Please note: interns must be enrolled in university for the full duration of the internship.

What do we offer?

  • An internship of 5 months, starting in March.
  • A great opportunity to learn about impact investing and (blended) development finance as well as climate adaptation, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, Food and Nutrition Security, and biodiversity.
  • The chance to be part of the very fun Green Finance team and the chance to build an international network.
  • Students in The Netherlands achieve an allowance of € 550 per month on a full time basis, including travel costs.
