“Working on improving the performance of our water reclamation and wastewater treatment plants gives me a unique opportunity to contribute directly to HEINEKEN’s sustainability and circularity goals.”

The internship

HEINEKEN is committed to becoming net zero carbon by 2030 (scope 1 & 2) and to significantly reducing water use and wastewater impacts across its global operations. To achieve this ambition, we continuously optimize our water reclamation and wastewater treatment plants. In this internship, you will help us assess, benchmark, and enhance the operational performance of our Water Reclamation Plant (including Reverse Osmosis WTP) and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), with a focus on biogas generation and utilization.

In this internship you will have the opportunity to:

  • Review and map the current operational performance of the existing Water Reclamation Plant and Reverse Osmosis WTP.
  • Conduct a performance gap analysis and develop an action plan to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Identify and document good practices in water recovery, wastewater treatment, and resource utilization.
  • Review and analyze WWTP and Boiler Standards to develop a playbook that improves biogas generation and increases utilization in boilers or other energy applications.
  • Support the implementation of key recommendations and monitor performance improvements.

During your internship, you will gain hands-on experience in industrial water and wastewater management and learn how sustainability is embedded within HEINEKEN’s production operations. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team within Sustainable Production, combining engineering, process optimization, and environmental management.

The department

The Sustainable Production department (part of Global Production, Supply Chain) consists of a multidisciplinary team, working on different subjects of sustainability of our operations such as water and energy usage, decarbonization, wastewater management and reporting.
