In this role, you are responsible for developing and maintaining accurate cost estimates for planned vessel repairs in the Dredging & Inland Infra division of Boskalis. The role is critical in ensuring that repair projects are completed within budget and meet financial objectives.

The Cost Engineer will be an integral part of a repair team and will work closely with the project manager, technical experts, and procurement experts to gather relevant data and provide detailed cost information. You will be stationed in DTED (Design Tender Engineering Cost Engineering Department for knowledge development and guidance) but will be seconded to the Fleet Management department, which is responsible for the overall coordination of vessel repairs.

Your Key Responsibilities as a Vessel Repair Cost Engineer are:

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for planned repairs of dredging vessels, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Collaborate with the project manager, project team, technical experts, and procurement expert to gather and validate cost-related aspects.
  • Analyze historical repair costs and industry benchmarks and update cost databases to ensure accurate and competitive cost estimates.
  • Prepare and present cost estimates and reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and track repair project expenditures against budget, identifying and addressing any variances.

Your qualities

You can move ahead as a Vessel Repair Cost Engineer if you recognize yourself in the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, Cost Engineering, or a related field. Professional certification in cost engineering (e.g., DACE) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimating within the maritime or ship repair industry.
  • Strong understanding of vessel repair processes, materials, and labor requirements.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
