Intro
Are you looking for a way to make a direct impact on a company and the environment? A challenging graduation project where you can push the limits of what is possible and what has been done before? Do you enjoy finding new ways to create and design solutions focused on the implementation of future fuels? If so, then look no further than this graduation position at Royal IHC!
Internship Project Description
In the coming years, several regulations will enter into force regarding the emissions of ships, either sailing worldwide or specifically in or towards European harbors. Within Royal IHC, the new platform trailing suction hopper dredger LEAF (Low Energy, Adaptable Fuel) is being developed to meet the needs of our clients regarding the future application of alternative fuels. Many tenders or clients request a certain level of prepared execution so that they know what to adjust or convert when the rules enter into force, or what they can already install on board during the newbuild phase. An example of the possibilities is given in Lloyds Register whitepaper ‘Zero Ready Framework’.
The machinery and piping department is responsible for delivering the basic engineering (BE) package for equipment on board vessels within IHC. In addition to delivering BE drawing packages to the yard, the engineers also communicate with the building site, class bureaus, and customers on a daily basis.
The Challenge
Within this graduation project, you will be responsible for, together with colleagues from several departments within Royal IHC, investigating the applications of future fuels and determining several levels of preparedness for the future, depending on client wishes. These levels need to be clearly described for the sales department to present to clients and for the engineering department to have a clear scope and demarcation of the required preparations. The results of the graduation project should minimally lead to a leaflet or brochure, together with an extensive report on the findings.
You will use current designs, client feedback, and regulations to create several preparation levels for the application of the selected future fuel. These designs will be used to inform clients, agree on certain levels during technical clarifications, and inform the engineering department on execution requirements. In order to achieve this, you will be involved in a wide range of tasks and have the following responsibilities:
In short, you will be expected to research, design, and document different levels of preparations for future fuels on board the LEAF platform. This graduation project will impact not just the machinery and piping department but other departments across IHC as well. You will be involved in helping to create a brighter future for the LEAF platform design.
Your Profile
In order to be able to discuss and inform the organization and colleagues of the developments and initiatives in the field of alternative fuels, LEAF platform TSHD and the Royal IHC philosophy, you must be an articulate, confident, and self-driven individual, capable of taking initiative when carrying out your duties. To be eligible for this position you must have:
