Do you want to use your communication skills to help build a fairer and more sustainable world?

At CBI, part of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), you’ll put your communications talents to meaningful use while supporting international projects. You will support the communications team in various dynamic projects, working closely with the communications advisor, content creators, and social media specialists. You’ll also get the opportunity to take on tasks from programme and project managers. You will help create and distribute content, assist in organizing events, and contribute to the development of communication strategies aimed at international business development.

We’re offering an internship for a curious and energetic communications student who enjoys variety: one day you might help write a case story or social media post, the next you're assisting with organising an event or project.

As a Communications & Dynamic Intern at CBI, your tasks include:

  • Contributing to the implementation of the communications strategy to inform, motivate and engage CBI’s various target audiences
  • Creating content for the website and social media (LinkedIn and Facebook) in Canva, and ensuring existing content is kept up to date
  • Managing the content calendar and coordinating with content specialists, programme managers and other stakeholders
  • Supporting communication projects and taking ownership of sub-projects or specific tasks
  • Assisting with large international development projects by contributing to meetings and conducting desk research
  • Staying in touch with CBI stakeholders involved in projects — CBI works with external experts and partner organisations such as business associations and Chambers of Commerce
  • Providing logistical support in planning, organising and coordinating CBI events (e.g. international trade fairs, workshops and trainings organised as part of CBI projects)
  • Supporting the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team — for example, by taking minutes during evaluation interviews or assisting with transparency initiatives
  • Support the communications team with daily tasks and ongoing projects
  • Assist in the creation of digital and print content
  • Help organize and coordinate events and workshops
  • Contribute to the development and execution of communication strategies
  • Monitor and report on communication activities and their impact

PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible for this internship, you are expected to have a working knowledge of Dutch (spoken and reading), as our general meetings are conducted in Dutch. You are not required to write in Dutch.

What we offer

  • A dynamic and international working environment
  • Opportunities to develop your professional skills
  • Guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals
  • Insight into international trade and development projects
  • CBI has a unique position in the world for 50 years; the organization is a leader in sharing knowledge and expertise with entrepreneurs in developing countries
  • We work on relevant themes such as sustainability, social responsibility, gender equality, or youth employment. You can help CBI realize transitions around these themes!
  • As an intern, you will get plenty of space for personal development:
    • An internship supervisor will support you in formulating your objectives, questions and developing your competencies
    • Assignments are given based on your areas of interest and based on the needs of the organization
  • Working at CBI means working in an international context, where a balance between development cooperation and international business is central. We organize activities such as informal drinks outside of working hours.

Additional Benefits

Stagevergoeding (Internship Allowance)
If your internship at RVO lasts longer than one month, you are entitled to an internship allowance based on a five-day, 40-hour workweek. For internships of less than 40 hours per week, the allowance is calculated proportionally.

Reiskostenvergoeding (Travel Allowance)
If you cannot use an OV-student card for travel between your home and the internship location, you may receive a travel allowance according to the rules for government employees. For business trips, the rules for domestic and international travel for government employees apply. Train travel is in second class.

Vakantie-uren (Holiday Hours)
For internships of one month or longer, you are entitled to 160 holiday hours per year for a 40-hour workweek. For fewer hours, this is calculated proportionally.

What we ask

  • Working knowledge of Dutch (speaking and reading B2 minimum) as our general meetings are in Dutch. You do not have to be able to write Dutch.
  • You must be enrolled at a Dutch educational institution for the entire duration of the internship
  • You are currently enrolled in a higher professional or academic programme in the field of (intercultural) communication
  • You have an interest in international trade and/or development cooperation
  • You have knowledge of and/or an interest in digital media and Canva
  • You have a good command of spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of French is a plus
  • You are eligible to work in the Netherlands

About CBI and RVO

About CBI
CBI (Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries) is part of RVO and works to connect entrepreneurs in developing countries with the European market. Our team is passionate about international business and sustainable development. CBI aims to contribute to sustainability transitions in sectors in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East by stimulating the export of products and services, particularly to Europe, together with local and international private and public partners. We focus on the export of niche products and services that offer economic opportunities for local SMEs as well as opportunities for more decent work in the sector and better treatment of the environment. For example, the export of organic variants of agricultural products, semi-finished products instead of raw materials, and sustainable variants of textiles. In this way, we use export as a means to contribute to sustainability transitions. We contribute in particular to SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), with special attention to issues concerning women and young people. We use systems thinking and co-creative, iterative work. CBI has a portfolio of 40-50 multi-year projects in more than 25 countries, with about 60 people divided over three teams. CBI is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is a department of RVO.

Special Notes

  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for this position.

RVO supports hybrid working. You can do your work from any location (from home, at the office, or elsewhere). However, your presence at the RVO office in The Hague may be required in certain situations. For this position, the expectation is an average of 2 days per week at the office.

The start and end date of your internship can be agreed upon in consultation.
