Go deeper! As an Operations Business Analyst at Samskip, you dive deep into our operations to identify solutions that will enhance operational performance across our international transport operations.

You help provide a thorough analysis of the cost control processes, cost variance analysis, and direct operating spend to assist operations management.

Samskip is looking to create an independent role to review the internal cost control processes and aid in improving cost control awareness throughout the organization. Additionally, this role will provide detailed cost variance analysis using the standard costing approach for managing the costing and pricing of Samskip’s multimodal transport activities. This should aid in keeping control over the direct operating spend with our suppliers, avoiding unnecessary spend, and guide operations management toward a better understanding of the business dynamics, and ensure timely corrective actions. If you think you can help us achieve all that, read on and find out more about life at Samskip.

About us:

Samskip is a truly international company with headquarters in Rotterdam that innovates the most advanced sustainable and multimodal transport solutions across Europe. Being one of the largest transport companies in Europe and at one of the world’s busiest and most important transport and shipping hubs, you will engage with the cutting edge of 21st-century logistics.

It’s exciting, it’s fun, and every day is different as you work with a diverse range of colleagues from different regions and disciplines to deliver advanced transport solutions. Together, we make things happen.

Job Description:

This is a challenging and wide-ranging role in which you work with financial and operational data to review the correct implementation of various cost control processes, to analyze the differences between actual and standard costs for identifying the main reasons for deviation, and to provide corrective actions to the operations management. Furthermore, you will provide support in maintaining procurement processes and consolidating detailed information of regional teams. It involves all aspects of operations - land transport by road, rail, and water, shipping, ports, terminals, and equipment – and represents an exciting opportunity to help improve Samskip's operational excellence and bottom-line results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and analyze deviations from solid cost control processes
  • Monthly review of cost center P&Ls
  • Identify and analyze the routing & timing difference
  • Compare the assumptions of the standard costs model with the actual figures for that month
  • Root cause analysis of the largest variances by drilling down to a lower level
  • Propose changes/updates to the standard cost model and discuss with cost owners/managers
  • Close cooperation with operations management to improve the processes where needed
  • Participate in regular meetings with operations management in all regions and communicate/align on the main causes of deviations.
  • Thorough checks of Rate Confirmation Notes (RCNs)
  • Regular spot checks on rate entry in operational systems
  • Maintain and update supplier databases and procurement records

Equipped with KPIs and cost and efficiency variance, you propose a list of improvement points for the management. In addition, you assist management in creating and maintaining internal processes concerning operations excellence improvement.

Qualifications:

To apply for this position, you need to be a highly accurate, analytical, and critical thinker who can interact with specialized colleagues to explore, develop, and implement new options and opportunities. You should also be proactive, flexible, and willing to go the extra mile.

If you also tick the following boxes, we would love to hear from you:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field such as Business Studies, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or IT
  • Previous experience in the transportation and logistics industry is an advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational & analytical skills
  • Independent and willing to continuously improve ways of working
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Power BI. Strong digital understanding and expertise
  • Ideally, you have industry-recognized certificates such as those from the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
  • Good written and spoken English language skills with a strong ability to write clear and convincing reports
