We are currently looking for a Mechanical Architect to join the team in Delft.

As a Mechanical Architect, you will lead the mechanical design of state-of-the-art satellite communication products. Acting as the bridge (from a mechanical perspective) between customers, suppliers, and the high-tech factory, you will shape innovative yet cost-effective solutions and play a key role in scaling the company’s products for volume manufacturing.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of products, balancing technical performance with cost-effective solutions for volume production.

  • Collaborate closely within multidisciplinary (multi-company) teams, including optical, control, systems, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers from a mechanical engineering perspective to ensure high-quality and manufacturable designs.
  • Iterate and transfer mechanical designs to the factory for series production.
  • Contribute both at the conceptual/architectural level and, when needed, perform hands-on CAD work.
  • Provide input on mechanical design aspects for customer proposals, tenders, and subsidy projects.
  • Support the development of CAD and PLM infrastructure and assist in setting up factory and production facilities.
  • Help establish mechanical design standards and ensure their adoption across teams.
  • Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps across all product lines.

Requirements

  • HBO or WO degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or a related field).
  • At least 5 years of experience in a comparable mechanical engineering role in the space or high-tech industry.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (such as Siemens Teamcenter/NX and/or SolidWorks) and knowledge of fine mechanical construction principles, design for stability of precision opto-mechanical instruments, and DFX practices.
  • Strong understanding of how mechanical design choices impact cost in volume manufacturing.
  • Capable of leading technical discussions with suppliers to support product development.
  • Entrepreneurial and creative, able to identify and translate technical challenges or new developments into practical mechanical solutions.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and proactive, demonstrating perseverance and initiative.
  • Pragmatic and capable of working independently while contributing to building the company.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken); Dutch is preferred but not required.
  • Ambitious, solution-oriented, and a collaborative team player.

About the company

At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
