About the role:
In this role, you have the opportunity to be fully responsible for the architecture of a range of products or subsystems—so that future product options and features can be realized with acceptable effects and most optimized overall/integrated impacts for earlier products and the existing product range in total. You will be able to guide the engineering teams into the most desirable solutions on the integrated product level.
The impact you’ll make:
- Drive harmonization and modular design of system (i.e. product, (sub-)system, software, service, platform, solution) architecture, product family platforms, and technology choices in your assigned area of responsibility.
- Define scope and problem domain in a crisp and structured way in a multi-disciplinary setting: define the problem with stakeholders and identify key issues.
- Deliver a consolidated (reference) architecture: create well-defined building blocks/system options & scenarios; choose the optimal architecture for the business, leverage technology and contribute to/drive roadmaps; establish control points (IP).
- Ensure solid, up-to-date, and usable documentation of the architecture; use methods & tools for a structured approach.
- Be end-responsible for the accepted implementation of architecture, by explaining, convincing, deciding; including validation and verification; solving issues and learning from them; establishing architecture lifecycle management; and teaming-up for impact.
- Grow and coach the teams implementing the architecture.
- Act within the total context (business, organization, roadmaps, external world, overall ecosystem etc.): drive for convergence; capture/re-use prior art and in- and external trends; remain up-to-date with regard to professional knowledge and technological development in the overall product field of expertise.
The skills and knowledge you’ll bring:
- Expert knowledge in mechanical engineering (minimum 5 years of practical product development engineering work), including knowledge of hydraulics and basics of thermodynamics; capability in 3D modeling and design (NX software is the current standard and nice to have, but knowledge of other 3D modeling software is also acceptable).
- Familiarity with Design for Testing, Design for Assembly, and Design for Cost.
- General understanding of main neighboring areas of engineering, such as electronics, material science, sustainability, product safety requirements, and main connected technologies and components like hydraulic systems, pumps, and valves.
- Knowledge and understanding of tool design (plastic, rubber, die cast metal, sheet metal forming).
- Knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes, such as plastic molding, rubber molding, steel/aluminum diecast, and related post-processing/finishing treatments.
- Desirable: knowledge and working experience in the development of small domestic appliances (not a condition).
- DfSS (desirable) and problem-solving methodologies (knowledge of a structured approach to design and problem solving is a must).
- Product quality requirements and evaluation (desired) as well as DMFEA (must) and PMFEA (nice to have) methodology.
- Knowledge of material inspection and analysis (tomography scan, light scan, stress and performance test such as hardness verification, vibration test, etc.).
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Good team collaboration skills and proactive team and self-management skills are important.
What we’ll give you in return:
- Internationally competitive base salary, benchmarked against global industry and market leaders.
- Performance-based Annual Incentive Program, rewarding those who dare and achieve more.
- Balanced office-based working: With a strong focus on in-office collaboration, we offer flexibility to work from home based on team needs and individual circumstances.
- Work from abroad: Up to 30 days per year.
- Structured holiday policy: Includes defined care days, enhanced maternity/paternity leave, and a capped option to purchase additional leave days annually.
- Inclusive working culture and family spirit; we embrace our international community and diversity as a competitive advantage.
