Be part of progress: Join Our Team as a Safety and Risk Engineer

Introduction to the job

We are looking for a safety and risk engineer who assesses product designs on safety aspects and facilitates safety risk assessments and studies such as HAZOP, LOPA, ALARP, and SIL. These assessments are carried out jointly with competence engineers who are organized throughout the entire D&E organization. You will execute the interest and progress of safety reviews and safety risk assessments, managing these processes in collaboration with others. A deeply rooted principal knowledge of safety and the ability to uphold standards in challenging situations is needed to be successful in this role.

You will be part of a risk assessment team with an overall vision that R&D clusters conduct their own traceable and auditable risk assessments by 2030. You will work in the Human Safety in Design (HSID) team, which is part of the Safety & Compliance (S&C) department within the Development & Engineering (D&E) sector and is based in Veldhoven.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure product safety compliance across ASML R&D.
  • Contribute to building an independent safety culture by 2030 through technical expertise and leadership.
  • Apply safety procedures and conduct environmental, health, and safety evaluations to protect people and the environment.
  • Investigate safety incidents and support continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Perform design-based safety risk assessments and system-level evaluations (e.g., SIL determination).
  • Facilitate and lead risk assessment meetings, ensuring relevant competencies are involved.
  • Share safety knowledge and best practices across teams to strengthen safety culture and awareness.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Safety Engineering.
  • Experience in machine safety and functional safety design; having a functional safety/machine safety certificate is a plus.
  • Typically, 2-5 years’ experience in product development or engineering organizations.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in HAZOP/LOPA/ALARP participation; ability to facilitate HAZOP/LOPA/ALARP/SIL is a plus.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

  • Ability to balance safety requirements and operational priorities.
  • Conscientious and determined.
  • Able to build network and relationships.
  • Discrete, independent, self-propelling, and showing initiative.
  • Can communicate clearly, concisely, and directly to peers and customers.
  • Through a knowledge base of (technical) safety (theories), can factually support their case.
  • Can clearly state own opinion in difficult and conflict situations and works towards aligning effort with others.
