Join the Taminiau Lab: Advancing Quantum Science with Solid-State Spins

Job Description

We are seeking a passionate candidate to join the Taminiau Lab, which investigates solid-state spins and their applications for quantum science and technology. Our research combines quantum optics, magnetic resonance, and nanoscale fabrication to detect and control individual spins associated with defect centers. With these controlled systems of coupled spins, we aim to answer questions such as:

  • How does decoherence emerge in complex quantum systems?
  • Can we emulate and study complex many-body physics?
  • Can we use quantum coherence to realize novel improved sensors?
  • Can we protect quantum states and computations indefinitely so that large-scale quantum computations become possible?
  • Does quantum mechanics continue to accurately describe such extended large-scale quantum systems?

In this position, you will work with a team of researchers to realize complex systems of coupled spins in diamond and silicon carbide and use these to investigate time crystals, a novel quantum phase of matter.

Job Requirements

  • You have a Master’s degree in physics, applied physics, nanoelectronics, or a related field.
  • Some experience with solid-state quantum systems, quantum optics, magnetic resonance, or nanofabrication is appreciated.
  • Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis.
