The Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN) is an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, conducting fundamental and strategic scientific research in the field of the cognitive functions of the brain, such as consciousness, perception, movement, learning, and social interactions. The NIN research groups generate a lot of data and are determined to store data according to the FAIR principles, making it easily available for other scientists. The institute has an existing data policy that needs to be further implemented and developed.
About the Role
Due to the retirement of our current data manager, we have a vacancy for an Open Science Data Manager (38 hours per week). The range of tasks you will be responsible for is broad and multifaceted. At present, the data manager oversees the storage for fifteen research groups, encompassing more than 1.0 petabyte of data. The NIN has a storage protocol that requires researchers to order their data according to a prescribed folder schema. A system for generating meta-data is available. An in-house built app consisting of several Bash, PowerShell, and JavaScript scripts is used to assess the data storage, compliance to the NIN data protocol, and provide feedback to users.
You are responsible for (further) developing our data management and policy regarding organizing, storing, securing, archiving, and making research data FAIR (machine readable). You are an intermediary between researchers and ICT and provide both strategic and tactical advice on storage and sharing of research data. You act as advisor, point of contact, guide our employees in the right direction and are responsible for the following tasks:

Terms of Employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is €3,546 and the maximum salary is €6,433 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 10 or 11, cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP. The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment). We offer assistance with finding a house.
