About the company
More than 85,000 colleagues worldwide work daily to build a future we all trust. In the Netherlands, Thales employs 2,500 people, with around 250 based at Thales Huizen, which holds a leading position in cutting-edge, dependable network and security solutions worldwide under the name “SOTAS”.

SOTAS at its core is a voice communications solution used by the crews of military vehicles (e.g. armored personnel carriers or battle tanks) during their missions. We are now expanding the SOTAS product to support the next generation integrated vehicle mission systems, for which cloud and crypto technologies play a crucial role.

To meet this challenge, we are looking for a talented and enthusiastic;

Junior Crypto & Cloud Security Specialist who is eager to contribute to the realization of this vision.

About the Role

As a Junior Crypto & Cloud Security Specialist, you will be part of the team responsible for the security of our novel solutions in both static and mobile environments. You have a solid understanding of basic cryptographic and cloud technologies and are eager to become an expert in the field.

You will work closely with security specialists, engineers and architects to ensure the highest level of resilience and as such protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data processed in high assurance classified environments, there where it counts. You will learn to understand the unique security challenges of military systems and have the opportunity to work with a broad portfolio of high-tech solutions. Furthermore, you have ideas on how to keep cloud native applications running as these might be subject to jamming when fielded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing security audits on cloud-based applications and infrastructures.
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of cryptographic solutions, such as data encryption and Key Management.
  • Implementing a system to monitor (static cloud/vehicle) security incidents and assistance when breached.
  • Contributing to the security of the SOTAS architecture, including data encryption and integrity of communication within the Vehicle Electronic Architecture (VEA).
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of security protocols and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, IEC62443).
  • Staying informed about the latest threats and trends in cryptography and cloud security.
  • Advising the MOD and/or military end users on security best practices, from development to implementation.

About you

  • Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in cyber security, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an IT or security environment.
  • Knowledge of Cryptography: Basic understanding of cryptographic principles (e.g., hashing, symmetric/asymmetric encryption, PKI) and their practical application.
  • CISM, CISA or CISSP certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Cloud Platforms: Experience with or certifications for major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • (a strong plus): Familiarity with OT security (IEC 62443) and/or former military experience
  • (a strong plus): Programming Experience: Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

NOTE: Permanent NL citizenship and passport are both required. Non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
