How do you make our customers happy?

Bol is changing retail to make daily life simpler for over 13 million Dutch and Belgian customers. We are joined on this mission by 46,500 partner sellers that do business on our retail tech platform. This represents a combined assortment of approximately 41 million products. All our customers are unique, with their own characteristics, preferences, and habits. Quantifying those differences, grouping them in meaningful segments, and predicting future behavior is complex, so how do we do so and provide value to our customers, partners and internal teams?

What you do as Data Scientist in Customer Audiences and Profiles?

As a Data Scientist in the Customer Audiences & Profiles product, you play a pivotal role in shaping how bol understands and activates customer data. Your work enables marketing and advertising teams to deliver more relevant, personalized experiences at scale. You will be working on solutions that model customer behavior, define high-value audiences, and build data-driven profiles that fuel our targeting and personalization capabilities. Whether you’re optimizing how we segment customers, developing predictive models, or helping translate raw event data into business impact, your work will directly contribute to bol’s growth and customer satisfaction.

What you will work on

  • Develop and productionize the machine learning and business models that help define customer segments and audiences.
  • Build and maintain the customer data profiles used in targeting, experimentation, and personalization by leveraging behavioral and transactional data.
  • Translate business questions into data science problems and communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work closely with (data) engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship impactful solutions.
  • Contribute to the refinement of our customer feature store.
  • Ensure the performance of our (machine learning) models is monitored, understood, and continuously improved over time.

Why you can make the difference

You have at least 3 years of experience working as a data scientist, applying your skills to solve real business problems. You’re confident working with large datasets and know how to turn raw data into valuable insights and scalable solutions.

You’re comfortable with Python’s data science and machine learning ecosystem (pandas, scikit-learn, and tensorflow or pytorch), and SQL, and have experience with tools like BigQuery, Airflow and dbt. While it’s not required, it’s a plus if you’ve worked on similar data challenges (personalization, customer segmentation, or other marketing-related use cases) or if you have expertise in bringing machine learning solutions to production in the cloud with Vertex AI or equivalent tooling.

What matters most is your ability to collaborate across disciplines. You enjoy working closely with engineers, marketers, and analysts to explore ideas, build robust data products, and translate complexity into clarity. You can explain your thinking clearly, challenge assumptions when needed, and always keep the bigger picture in mind.
