Backend Developer (Kotlin/Java, Microservices, Kafka) - Store Replenishment at Albert Heijn

Help shape the technology driving one of the Netherlands’ most trusted brands. As our new DevOps Backend Engineer (Kotlin/Java, Kafka, DevOps), you’ll build and run applications that keep our supply chain efficient, compliant, and future-ready. Working at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and business, you’ll have the chance to influence how millions of products move through our network while ensuring innovation, reliability, and impact at scale.

This is how you will reinvent food retail.

  • Build and scale microservices in Kotlin for our Warehouse Outbound & Insights team, powering smarter supply chain operations.
  • Design and deliver technical solutions that align with our architecture and business processes.
  • Hands-on development: create proofs of concept, write clean code, implement automated testing, ensure security and code quality, and set best practices.
  • Contribute to standards: shape and evolve our technical guidelines for long-term scalability.
  • Collaborate and share: bring your expertise to cross-team initiatives within the AH Stores and Supply Chain Technology Platform.
  • Enable growth: improve team skills and processes to deliver business value faster and more effectively.

You work at the heart of the Albert Heijn supply chain. The AH Store Replenishment product is responsible for creating the orders for 1200+ Albert Heijn stores. Our mission is to provide the best shopping experience to our customers, offering high service levels and fresh products at an affordable price, a task you won't take on solo but as a full-fledged member of the replenishment development team.

The recipe for maximum impact:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Java/Kotlin developer.
  • You know your technology stack: you are the expert when it comes to Microservice, Kotlin (or Java), Postgres or MongoDB, k8s and Kafka
  • Experience in Cloud (Azure preferred, but we will get you up to speed if you have AWS/Google experience);
  • Know your way around with CI/CD, including test automation integrations and release engineering automation (fyi, we use Azure DevOps and Github Actions)
  • Strong understanding of concepts like code quality, IT security, test automation, and cloud practices;
  • Outstanding communication in English;
  • Ability to identify (technical) improvements and contribute to a technical roadmap.
