Assistant Professor in Architectural Intelligence and Data-Driven Design at TU Delft

Join us in shaping the future of AI in architectural design

Job description

The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in Architectural Intelligence and Data-Driven Design. We are looking for an interdisciplinary scholar whose work connects architectural design, artificial intelligence, and data practices. This position is ideal for a candidate who not only understands the technical dimensions of AI—such as data workflows, machine learning, and knowledge representation—but who can also embed these within architectural thinking and making, design culture, and studio-based education.

The candidate brings computational expertise together with a sensitivity to spatial and cultural questions in architecture. You will work at the forefront of data-informed design, exploring how AI can support the ways architects conceptualize, analyze, design, and communicate the built environment—from early ideation to participatory and collaborative design processes. We are particularly interested in candidates who see computation not as a tool, but as a design medium and cultural practice.

You will join a faculty with a strong tradition in design-led research, where architecture is seen as a creative, technical and foremost a critical discipline. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate across studios, labs, and institutes—and to help define how architectural intelligence evolves in dialogue with data, computation, and environmental challenges. You will be part of a growing community of researchers and educators at TU Delft who are rethinking the future of design in an era shaped by technological, ecological, and societal transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will develop a distinctive research agenda that connects artificial intelligence to architectural design.
  • You will collaboratively teach courses that bring computational and data-driven methods into architectural education and supervise students across all levels. Central to your role is the ability to translate complex data and AI concepts into meaningful and clear operational design frameworks and workflows.
  • You will actively collaborate across disciplines, contribute to innovative open data initiatives, and help define how intelligent systems can meaningfully support architectural practice and culture.

Job requirements

  • You hold a PhD in architecture, design computation, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a closely related discipline.
  • You bring a strong foundation in data practices, AI methods, and knowledge representation, combined with a clear vision of how these can enrich architectural thinking and design culture.
  • Your work shows a capacity to operate across disciplines—engaging both technical and design-oriented communities.
  • You are able to communicate complex computational ideas in ways that resonate with architects and designers, and your research is grounded in both technological insight and spatial imagination. A track record of peer-reviewed publications, teaching experience, and a collaborative mindset round out your profile.
