Career at Damen

We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.

About us

Hop aboard Damen Naval; the naval division of the family-owned Damen Shipyards Group, where 12,000 professionals work worldwide. Damen Naval delivers advanced naval vessels to clients all over the globe. By implementing the most innovative technological developments in practice, we continue to push the boundaries of the shipbuilding industry. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

The role

As the Electrical Engineer Cabling at Damen Naval, you are responsible for the detailed design, routing, and integration of complex cabling systems onboard advanced naval vessels. Your work ensures that all electrical systems from sensors and power distribution units to mission-critical weaponry are safely and efficiently connected through optimal cable arrangements. You translate system designs into physical cable routes, considering EMC, separation guidelines, bending radii, and installation feasibility. Working within our 3DExperience engineering environment and according to the V-model, you align closely with various engineering disciplines to ensure a robust and production-ready cable design. The result of your effort is a network of cabling that forms the essential nervous system of our naval ships—reliable, safe, and compliant with the most stringent standards.

Key accountabilities

  • Design and document detailed cable routes, cable lists, and interface definitions for electrical systems, based on functional descriptions and system architecture.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant EMC, fire safety, separation, and mechanical protection standards during cabling design.
  • Work closely with colleagues from disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Outfitting, and Mechanical to align cable routing with physical space and construction constraints.
  • Maintain and develop cabling standards, calculation templates, and design methodologies.
  • Review vendor documentation and integrate their cabling requirements into the overall ship design.
  • Support production and installation by preparing detailed cable routing drawings, bill of materials, and installation guidelines.
  • Contribute to system validation by supporting cable verification and continuity checks during FAT, HAT, and SAT phases.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to optimize cable accessibility, maintainability, and lifecycle support.

Skills & experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in detailed cabling design and integration for complex electrical installations, preferably in the maritime, offshore, or aerospace sector.
  • Familiarity with cable routing in 3D environments and relevant CAD/PLM tools (e.g., 3DExperience, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Experience with system engineering principles and working within a multidisciplinary project structure.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Knowledge of EMC-compliant design and best practices for cable separation and shielding.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary and 8% holiday pay.
  • 27 holidays and 13 ADV days.
  • Travel allowance of 23 cents per kilometre.
  • PME-pension arrangement with an employer contribution of 60%.
  • Profit sharing based on company results.
  • Flexibility to work from home up to two days a week.
  • Additional benefits including a bicycle plan and company fitness.
