Introduction

ASML manufactures complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits or computer chips. These lithography machines contain a lot of powerful mechatronic modules. Metrology orchestrates the behavior of all these modules such that together they achieve an extraordinary combination of speed and accuracy. ASML's advanced metrology systems (YieldStar) are used to measure and compensate for sub-nanometer inaccuracies that inevitably creep in due to material imperfections, temperature fluctuations, atmospheric pressure changes or drift of modules.

Your assignment

There is a strong need to develop next generation YieldStar machines and to improve the performance of existing ones in order to fulfill market demands. The metrology market is highly competitive, making the need to improve our platform even more pressing. The aim of this internship assignment is to modernize our existing metrology models in order to optimize the development, test and introduction of new algorithms.

The assignment consists of the following tasks:

  • Investigate and understand the existing image correction models in documents and in code;
  • Develop a modular code in Matlab to process an image with a series of image correction models;
  • Collaborate with ASML engineers during code development using version control systems such as Git or Bitbucket;
  • Verify image correction re-play tool with real images coming from YieldStar machines;
  • Be a proactive team player and participate in team activities (code reviews, investigation, team breakout such as coffee time and ping-pong games, etc.).

This is a Master apprentice internship for 4-5 days a week with a duration of 6 - 12 months. The start date is as soon as possible.

Your profile

To be suitable for this internship, you:

  • Are busy with your master's in Physics, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering study;
  • Are skilled in tooling like MATLAB and Git;
  • Preferably posses object-oriented programming skills (C#/C++/Python);
  • Are resilient and eager to learn;
  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
