Postdoc in Distributed Quantum Computing at TU Delft

The PD researcher works on applying and merging reconfigurable and distributing computing techniques in the quantum computing stack enabling advanced control and fault-tolerance methods.

Job description

The PD researcher will be developing new hardware designs (and associated tools) for distributed use in the cryostat between cryogenic and room temperatures intended to improve the (distributed and hierarchical) control of qubits as well as the acceleration of fault-tolerance algorithms. Practical solutions proposed in this work will have a significant impact on the scalability and reliability of future quantum computers. The PD researcher will be working in a team with access to the advanced labs with cryostats and the latest hardware design tools, and with extensive knowledge of cryogenic hardware design. However, the actual digital hardware design team is smaller, and it is expected that the PD researcher will have to work with PhD candidates and MSc students. The PD researcher will be working the Computer Engineering section within the department of Quantum and Computer Engineering. The department has strong ties with the QuTech institute within the TU Delft.

Job requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of quantum computing and associated control hardware.
  • Expertise with FPGA and ASIC design methodologies and tools.
  • Expertise with guidance of MSc students is a pre.

Challenge. Change. Impact!

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.

Conditions of employment

  • Duration of contract is 1 year with extension for another year.
  • A job of 36-40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
