Challenging position for the IBFD IT department

DevOps Engineer

Established in 1938, the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) has steadily grown into the world’s foremost authority on cross-border taxation and a respected home to collect information about international taxation. IBFD is a leading international tax knowledge provider offering expert insights into cross-border taxation. We are dedicated to innovation and excellence, and our IT infrastructure forms the backbone of our operations. As a non-profit foundation, IBFD brings tax knowledge to the whole wide world, through publications, training, research, and data. IBFD is a hybrid organization, with activities in the field of publishing, training, government services, and academia. Around 250 employees work in four offices on three continents, from 40 countries, with 700+ external authors and correspondents worldwide. The Tech & Data department serves as the development hub for IBFD and is also responsible for managing infrastructure and service management. The department comprises approximately 25 full-time employees and external developers operating in near-shore and offshore arrangements.

Role overview

IBFD is looking for a proactive and skilled DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in optimizing, automating, and maintaining our IBFD’s IT infrastructure and cloud setup, ensuring efficiency and reliability while supporting and building seamless deployment pipelines. With a strong focus on collaboration, this position requires expertise in cloud platforms, container orchestration, monitoring systems, and infrastructure as code.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient software delivery.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform to streamline deployments.
  • Manage and optimise Kubernetes clusters for scalability and reliability.
  • Oversee GitLab workflows to support version control and collaboration.
  • Utilise Grafana, Loki, and Prometheus to monitor and enhance system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions.
  • Monitor and manage services hosted on Azure, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Apply ITIL principles and practices to manage incidents, problems, and change requests effectively.
  • Advocate for and implement DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and infrastructure as code. Foster a culture of collaboration & respect between the development team and the Infrastructure & Service Management team.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab, Kubernetes, and Azure.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as but not limited to Grafana, Loki, and Prometheus.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Affinity for staying updated with emerging technologies and best practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies like Docker. Background in automating and streamlining complex workflows.
