JOB PURPOSE

The Automation & Utility Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and helping factory teams in maintaining automated systems and working on decarbonization, maintaining compliance, and preparing capex roadmap for Foods factories related to utilities such as steam, water, gas, electricity, and compressed air. The role focuses on optimizing processes, reducing human intervention, and improving overall efficiency. Key responsibilities include designing and programming automation equipment, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with factory teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality.

Development of aligned automation technology specifications will be a key element of the role. The role holder will provide analytical support in defining optimum technology criteria. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining audit protocols for technology/supplier evaluation as well as providing effective engagement with a number of internal and sometimes external stakeholders. Additional responsibility for supporting benchmarking and cost modelling based on understanding of conversion cost drivers.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE?

  • PLC PROGRAMMING & OPTIMIZATION:

    Knowledge of developing, configuring, and modifying PLC (S7, TIA Portal, AB Rockwell etc.) control systems for various manufacturing processes (Process & Filling/Packing lines).

  • SCADA & HMI Integration:

    Implementing and maintaining SCADA/HMI systems to monitor and control processes, potentially including SCADA integration, RTU configuration, and automation system deployment.

  • SYSTEM DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION:

    Analyzing factories' needs to develop tailored automation solutions and providing engineering services for automation system deployment.

  • TROUBLESHOOTING & OPTIMIZATION:

    Help factory teams in addressing operational issues, optimizing system performance, and providing technical support for automation systems.

  • DIGITIZATION:

    Knowledge of Azure cloud, tag mapping, Artificial intelligence/Machine learning basics, knowledge of MES solutions to help factories in use case deployments.

Utility Scope

  • Prepare install base of utilities in Foods factories (not limited to), boilers, Air compressors, cooling towers, WWTP etc.
  • Project Management: Help sites in utility projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all utility systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards. To gain knowledge of various regulatory compliance to help sites always being compliant.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and guidance to factory engineers, technicians, and contractors working on utility projects.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to utility system failures and emergencies, coordinating repairs and restoring service as quickly as possible.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs of utility infrastructure to ensure continuous and efficient operations.

DOCUMENTS & TRAINING:

Preparing application guides, technical documentation, and conducting product updates and training for customers.

  • Management of global suppliers, evaluating the impact of their technology on their supply to Unilever, supporting/encouraging improvements/changes as appropriate
  • Carrying out SC scenario modelling.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • Educational Background: A degree in Instrumentation & Control engineering, Electronics & Electrical engineering or a related field is generally required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming languages, understanding of robotics, AI, and machine learning, and familiarity with hardware components.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues and develop efficient solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with teams and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in designing, testing, and troubleshooting systems.
