The biggest challenge

Designing and implementing future-proof internal control frameworks that scale with our projected (substantial) growth without impeding ‘entrepreneurial agility.’ How do you combine robust compliance requirements with business velocity? How do you embed controls that protect without hindering innovation? You’ll convert evolving regulations (CSRD, ESG, etc.), complex business transformations, and diverging stakeholder expectations into clear requirements and devise elegant and practical solutions. The art lies in creating controls that feel like business enablers rather than bureaucratic barriers, while ensuring every process can withstand both internal and external scrutiny.

What you'll do as Specialist Risk & Control

As part of the Risk & Control team within our second-line Legal, Risk, and Compliance department, you’re the strategic bridge between control ambitions and operational reality. Working across the entire organization, you develop, implement, and monitor internal controls that enable growth while mitigating risk. Your bird’s-eye view of all bol processes uniquely positions you as the go-to expert for internal control across finance, operations, and (emerging) business models.

You collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Legal, and business teams, serving as their primary point of contact for all internal risk & control topics. As a subject-matter expert, you ensure we maintain control over risk, reporting, regulatory compliance, ESG reporting, and operational processes. Your analytical skills help you quickly grasp complex processes and identify control improvements that strengthen our competitive position.

During business transformations and new proposition launches, you ensure that control frameworks evolve in tandem with our ambitions. You support business owners through internal audits, embed control measures (on a ‘just enough’ basis), and monitor their effectiveness. You possess the communication skills to translate risk & control requirements into compelling business cases that stakeholders – up to the board level – understand and embrace.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and implement frameworks for financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and ESG
• Serve as the primary internal control contact for risk & control across bol and Ahold Delhaize
• Conduct risk analyses and control assessments for business processes and new propositions
• Support business owners through internal audit preparation and remediation processes
• Monitor control effectiveness and recommend improvements for scalability
• Advise senior management on the control implications of proposed business changes
• Liaise with internal and external auditors as a key discussion counterpart
• Communicate risk & control objectives and requirements clearly across all organizational levels

Why you can make a difference

You combine 5+ years of audit experience with solid stakeholder management skills and deep internal control and risk expertise. Your background (RA preferred) in internal auditing, risk management, or equivalent roles has taught you how to balance thoroughness with pragmatism. You excel at translating complex risk & control requirements into practical business solutions. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and ESG reporting is not a must but would strengthen your application. You’re a natural business partner who builds trust through clear communication and a genuine understanding of operational realities.

Where you'll work

You’ll join our rapidly expanding Legal, Risk and, Compliance department as a specialist on the Risk & Control team. This second-line function has grown significantly over the past three years, reflecting our commitment to control excellence. You’ll report to the Team Lead of Risk & Control while collaborating intensively with Legal & Compliance, ESG Reporting, and Ahold Delhaize Audit teams.
