Our Business Control team consists of 11 driven professionals who work every day to improve the financial steering within our organization. What defines us? An open culture, a strong focus on knowledge sharing, and a shared drive to truly support the business. We operate internationally and are in the middle of an exciting transition: from reporting to advising, from manual to data-driven. You'll have the opportunity to actively contribute to this transformation. Different team members focus on various parts of the organization, such as Operations, Commerce, Data, and Capex. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with another Business Controller focused on Offices.
As Business Controller Offices, you are responsible for creating insight into and steering the financial performance of our international headquarters. You analyze cost structures, prepare reports, and support management and the Executive Team in achieving strategic goals related to personnel and operational costs. But your role goes beyond just reporting. You act as a sparring partner for various departments, discussing whether they are on track, identifying risks or opportunities, and thinking along on possible solutions. You truly support the business, not just with numbers, but with insights and ideas for improvement.
Together with the team, you’ll work on improving processes, data quality, and systems. We are in the midst of a transition towards a setup where the business takes more ownership of its own performance. Your role will be key in making that shift happen.
You play an active role in building business cases for investments, savings, or other initiatives that drive the organization forward. You provide solid financial backing and critically assess feasibility and impact. Your input enables management to make well-informed, strategic decisions.
You are also responsible for creating a reliable forecast of office-related costs (Payroll and Opex). You don’t do this alone, you collaborate closely with management from various departments. Your forecast is a key tool for cost control and investment planning.
In addition, you are the go-to sparring partner for budget owners. You don’t just help them understand their cost structures, you also challenge them: where can we work more efficiently, allocate resources smarter, or free up budget for new initiatives? With your sharp analysis and critical mindset, you help the organization make the right decisions and support future growth.
Your responsibilities:
Forecasting & Budgeting: You are responsible for creating and coordinating the budget, forecast, and strategic plan for our international offices, covering Payroll, Opex, one-off costs, and investments. You work closely with board members and directors from different functional departments. Your forecast enables active steering on costs, investments, and targets. You gather input from across the organization and ensure everything is delivered on time and aligned with the strategic direction.
Performance Analysis & Reporting: You ensure that budgets and forecasts for our international offices are accurate and actionable. You play a key role in the month- and year-end close by guiding the administrative team in processing invoices and proposing accruals, ensuring the business has the right steering information. You discuss the results monthly with board members and departmental directors. Thanks to your insights, we know exactly where we stand and where we’re headed.
Result Management: You keep continuous oversight of financial results and budgets across the offices. You identify variances, analyze trends, and provide advice on corrective actions. This way, you help the organization stay in control of its overhead costs.
Developing Steering Information: You design dashboards and financial management reports that enable the business to steer on key KPIs. Think insights into personnel costs, office space, or other overhead categories. You translate financial data into clear, actionable information, helping departments take ownership of their performance.
Business Cases & Decision Support: Whether it’s an investment, cost-saving initiative, or efficiency improvement, you help the business build solid financial cases. Together, you develop well-thought-out proposals that support senior leadership in making the right decisions.
Challenging & Supporting Budget Owners: You are a trusted sparring partner for budget owners. You help them understand their numbers and challenge them constructively: can we be smarter, save costs, or reallocate funds to support new plans? With your financial insights and proactive mindset, you help the organization create space for innovation and sustainable growth.
In this role, you report to Wester Laaper, Business Controller Offices.
Your work location will be our new office in Amsterdam Amstel (Wibautstraat). Of course, working from home is possible, but it is desired that you work from the office at least three days a week.
You have a solid financial foundation, ideally gained in an audit environment or in a (business) controller role within an international organization. Accounting and reporting standards hold no secrets for you, and you feel comfortable navigating complex structures with multiple stakeholders. You know exactly how to keep costs under control and can translate financial insights into clear, understandable messages, even for colleagues without a financial background.
What truly sets you apart is your drive to improve. You enjoy making processes smarter and more efficient, bring fresh perspectives to the table, and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. You not only have the analytical skills to spot trends and variances in the numbers, but also the maturity and confidence to discuss them openly, also with senior stakeholders and C-level executives. You know how to bring people along, create buy-in, and move smoothly between content and influence.
