We are currently looking for a Pilot Production Engineer Next-Generation Battery to join the team in the Eindhoven Area.

As a Pilot Production Engineer, you will support the development and pre-industrialization of thin-film-based battery technologies, contributing to innovations such as solid-state, lithium metal, sodium metal, and metal-air batteries. The role is situated within a research-driven environment focused on scaling up novel energy storage solutions by leveraging cutting-edge thin-film and thick-film process capabilities.

This role plays a key part in establishing a pilot battery production facility, developed in collaboration with leading industrial and national partners. The objective is to accelerate the energy transition and enable high-tech manufacturing competitiveness through tangible pilot production outputs.

  • Contribute technical input to the realization of OBIC, including equipment design, facility layout, and process integration
  • Evaluate and support decisions on facility location, infrastructure needs, equipment selection, and safety compliance
  • Establish supplier relationships for pilot line operations and procurement of key materials or tools
  • Lead pilot production runs of battery cells using both internal developments and externally supplied components
  • Ensure output meets predefined performance criteria and optimize for improved cell characteristics
  • Prepare and deliver manufacturing reports to stakeholders based on pilot production results
  • Operate in a multidisciplinary environment involving academia, industry, and public-private partnerships

Requirements

  • PhD in a battery-related field such as electrochemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in pilot or production-scale Li-ion battery technology
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: battery cell assembly, electrochemical testing, thin-film deposition, or electrode preparation
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to structure and prioritize work in complex, collaborative environments
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and project execution in high-tech or innovation-heavy settings
  • Critical thinking combined with a solution-oriented, proactive approach
