Job Description

Are you a motivated student seeking to make a real impact?  Do you want to gain hands-on experience in accounting and contribute to international development? An internship with SNV's Global Accounting team could be the perfect opportunity for you!

• Location: Netherlands/The Hague (hybrid work is possible, expected minimum office days: 2 days a week)
• Duration: 4-6 months (the intern must have the legal right to reside in the Netherlands for the full period of the internship- Visa not sponsored by SNV)
• Contract type: Internship with 32-40 hours work per week
• Expected start date: September 2025

To be considered for this role, you need to be enrolled in higher education for the entire internship in a relevant field.

The internship
We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to join our Netherlands Accounting Team. The internship will focus on providing a valuable learning experience while supporting the team in various initiatives. As the NL Accounting Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the accounting processes in SNV and you will be part of the NL accounting team (approx. 4-5 FTEs), finance department, located in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The NL Accounting Team is mostly responsible for:

• Financial administration of global teams and of projects lead from the Netherlands (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, fixed assets and cash)
• Recording the salary related transactions of NL staff as well as international staff
• Auditing expense reports
• Recording other billable costs to projects
• Month, Extensive and Year-end closure processes
• Transferring the liquidity funds to SNV countries
• Carrying out payments on behalf of SNV countries
• Intercompany invoicing and reconciliation with SNV countries
• VAT return on quarterly basis
• Reporting to the donors as per the contracted deadlines
• Coordinating the projects audit (where applicable)

Tasks and activities may include:

• Support in the completeness of Sap Business by Design/operational work instructions for all our accounting processes
• Support in clearing specific balance sheet items
• Support in filing system
• Support in accounting processes (e.g. daily tasks and tasks during Month and Year end closing) and contribute to their improvement

Qualifications

To qualify for this internship, we ask for the following requirements:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at an accredited EU university (for the duration of the internship) with a focus on Accounting, or Finance and you can provide a certificate of enrolment
• Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills. French is an added advantage
• A desire to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment
• Pro-active, pragmatic and solution driven
• A curious, self-motivated individual that works well in a team
• You must have the legal right to reside in the Netherlands for the internship period (SNV does not sponsor visas or permits for interns)

Our offer to you
SNV offers a hands-on and dynamic internship experience with an enthusiastic team at our office in The Hague. To ensure an optimal learning experience, we request you to work from the office in The Hague 50% of the time. Our offer includes:

• Available for minimum of 4 months and preferably 6 months- between 32-40 hours per week, starting in September 2025
• Internship allowance: €500 gross per month (for a 40-hour workweek), plus reimbursement for public transport costs (if applicable)
• Flexible starting date, with a preference for September 2025
