Lead the Future of Clinical Imaging Software at Philips

Principal Software Architect- Clinical Imaging Software (Best, NL)

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Software Architect to lead the architectural direction of our Clinical Imaging Software portfolio for the Image Guided Therapy Devices (IGT-D) business. As a key member of the Software Leadership team, you will be responsible for shaping innovative, AI-powered medical software solutions that adhere to the highest regulatory and quality standards.

Your role:

  • Lead clinical imaging software architecture with a balance of immediate delivery goals and future technical vision. Evaluate proposals from subsystem architects and external partners, while managing technical debt and prioritizing customer-centric non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure software compliance with medical regulatory standards like FDA, MDR, IEC 62304 and ISO 13485. Maintain comprehensive documentation to support regulatory submissions, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Collaborate with global R&D teams and stakeholders in marketing, PMO, quality, regulatory, and service functions. Serve as a liaison between business demands and software engineering execution to drive project success.
  • Mentor software architects and inspire cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration within Philips and the wider architectural community. Lead by example without direct authority to promote innovation and collective progress.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, documenting and presenting architectural decisions clearly. Support the team in conveying complex technical issues to non-technical audiences, adapting styles as necessary.
  • Drive simplification of software development architectures and processes to improve efficiency and maintainability.
  • Provide leadership for test and cybersecurity architecture strategies to ensure product safety, performance, and compliance.

You're the right fit if:

  • You’ve acquired over 15 years of experience in software engineering and over 8 years in architectural leadership within the medical device industry. This includes demonstrated success in bringing software-intensive medical devices to market and leading teams in multiple product launches.
  • Your skills include a strong background in clinical applications, systems integration, interoperability, and knowledge of medical device regulations like IEC 62304, FDA, MDR, and ISO 13485. You are familiar to work in agile development methodologies like SAFe, apply AI/ML technologies, and are able to solve problems using modern C++ code.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a Master's or Ph.D. preferred. In-depth familiarity with SaMD, FDA’s multi-function device policy, and experience with 510(k) submissions complement your educational background.
  • You’re an effective communicator with a passion for delivering safe, effective, and ethical AI-driven healthcare solutions. You excel in managing distributed teams, adapting communication styles to diverse stakeholders, and leveraging cloud technologies, preferably AWS, and modern CI/CD practices.

How we work together:

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

This is an office-based role in Best.
