About this position

The Research group RAPID (Risk Analysis for Prevention, Innovation & Development) specializes in assessing health risks from potentially hazardous exposures in various environments, including workplaces, general surroundings, and through food or drugs. With around 50 experts in fields like toxicology, epidemiology, chemistry, occupational hygiene and statistics, RAPID develops innovative tools and methods to predict risks accurately. Their mission is to reduce risks and improve human health by advising on exposure reduction, promoting safe design principles, and providing actionable insights for policymakers. RAPID collaborates with universities, research institutes, government bodies, and industry partners to make a significant impact on public health.

What will be your role?

Within RAPID, the 'Data-related Exposure Assessment Modelling' team develops innovative methods to assess and manage exposure risks, aiming to prevent occupational diseases. They focus on chemicals like nanomaterials, crystalline silica, welding fumes, biocides, pesticides, endotoxins, and asbestos. Their methods include exposure and risk assessment tools (e.g., Advanced Reach Tool (ART)), novel measurement techniques (sensors), biomonitoring (point of care testing), risk management measures (Virtual Occupational Hygiene Assistant (VOHA)), and health impact assessments within the exposome context.

As a scientist in Occupational Exposure Assessment, your core activities include:

  • Collecting and analyzing data at various workplaces
  • Developing new methods using advanced technologies
  • Advising customers on managing chemical exposure risks
  • Participating in multidisciplinary research projects and scientific discussions
  • Reporting research findings and publishing in scientific media
  • Initiating and contributing to project proposals

What we expect from you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive team-player with a broad scientific interest who is looking for complex challenges in the field of human exposure assessment & risk. To be able to communicate well with our clients, a good command of Dutch is preferred. Knowledge of occupational hygiene is required and some working experience is preferred (PhD is considered to be working experience). Your curiosity together with your surprising and innovative ideas and solutions make you a great innovator.

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • An academic background, preferably in Occupational/Environmental Health Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Life Science Technology (with a strong focus on occupational hygiene)
  • Knowledge regarding exposure assessment and modelling
  • Interest in chemical exposures, related health risks and risk management
  • Knowledge regarding basic statistical methods
  • Good command of Dutch and English
