Postdoc position at the Delft Teaching Academy - Future Engineering Skills

Job description

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is looking for a post-doc researcher within the Innovation for Delft Engineering Education (IDEE) initiative, on the theme “Future Engineering Skills”.

You will work in a cross-faculty research team of more than twenty TU Delft staff members, an educational development specialist, PhD student and student assistants. The group works on four work packages and conducts educational research with respect to:

  1. Finding and analysing current good practices and helping to create an inventory of what skills are desired from engineers by potential employers;
  2. Co-developing pilot teaching activities focusing on various transdisciplinary skills on the basis of theory, literature and best practices;
  3. Testing these activities and investigating how transdisciplinary skills may develop in practice and create a knowledge base on how various skills could be taught;
  4. Inform and assist the team in activities on institution wide educational development with respect to future engineering skills.

You will work closely with a PhD student who is also involved in this project.

For this post-doc position, you will work on the third and fourth workpackages. You will explore how to integrate project findings regarding best practices and pilot results into TU Delft educational practices and find ways to support teachers in offering more impactful, transdisciplinarity-focussed education. Also, you will work on an overall TU Delft strategy for embedding education on Future Engineering Skills in curricula, including transdisciplinary skills. This includes also making links with other (national and international) initiatives on novel forms of higher engineering education.

The outcomes of this two-year position include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the development of a platform that teachers can use to embrace teaching future engineering skills
  • Develop a strategy for organisational embedding of teaching future engineering skills
  • Academic journal publications and/or conference contributions on change (management) in higher engineering education

Job requirements

You have:

  • A PhD related to education sciences, engineering education research, policies or management.
  • Experience with publishing scientific results in academic journals.
  • Experience in educational management, educational renewal, or educational innovation in higher education.
  • Experience with organizing round tables and workshops, and writing policy recommendations.
  • Experience with or interest in educational design and innovation.
  • Familiarity with contemporary theories and philosophy of (engineering) education.
  • Strong social, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interest in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Good command of verbal and written English. Speaking/writing in the Dutch language is an asset (not compulsory).
