Position Summary

Join a Global Leader in Consumer Electronics as a Customs Classification Specialist (EU HS Classification)!

Are you ready to apply your classification expertise in a high-impact role within a multinational environment? Then we invite you to strengthen our best-in-class Customs Strategy team, based in the Rotterdam area.Your role: Customs Classification SpecialistAs our Customs Classification Specialist, your core responsibility is to ensure accurate and compliant classification of goods in line with EU legislation. You will support customs operations across Europe, provide guidance on classification matters, general customs matters, refund claims and export control compliance.You’ll operate within our European Customs Strategy team: a team that acts as both a financial safeguard and strategic advisor within the region. Your expertise will directly impact operational efficiency, legal compliance, and duty savings.

Role and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

HS Classification & Compliance

  • Determine and maintain correct HS codes for goods across EU markets.
  • Conduct binding tariff information (BTI) applications where applicable.
  • Monitor updates to CN/TARIC codes and reflect changes in internal systems.
  • Implement and support customs policies

Customs Processes & Advisory

  • Implement and improve classification procedures and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with R&D, supply chain and finance teams to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Act as internal expert on classification and origin in customs audits or AEO reviews.
  • Support our European Headquarters function.
  • Provide advisory on customs issues to stakeholders across the EU region with occasional travel.

Data & Systems Integration

  • Maintain HS classification data within ERP and customs management systems.
  • Support digitalization efforts using AI tooling.
  • Liaise with customs brokers to ensure consistent external classification.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Prepare KPI dashboards and compliance reports.
  • Monitor legal developments on classification (e.g. CN and WCO updates, EU Implementing Regulations).

Skills and Qualifications

What You Bring:

Hard Skills

  • Preferable 5+ years hands-on experience with EU HS classification in an international context.
  • Strong knowledge of CN/TARIC structure, explanatory notes, and classification rules.
  • Experience with customs ERP and classification databases.
  • Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).

Soft Skills

  • Analytical mindset and high attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator who can translate technical details into practical solutions.
  • Proactive, organized and comfortable working under time pressure.
  • Team-oriented and capable of building strong stakeholder relationships.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of Dutch Customs Management System (DMS).
  • Knowledge of SAP systems including Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Experience as customs specialist in a logistics environment.
  • Familiarity with Asian business culture.
