Internship – Sustainable Freight & Retail Partnerships at HEINEKEN

Date: 2 Jun 2025

Company: HEINEKEN

Internship – Sustainable Freight & Retail Partnerships

Collaborating with supply chain partners, like retail customers on reducing logistics emissions is a growing area of interest. It’s a complex but rewarding challenge that offers plenty of room for fresh ideas and practical solutions.

The internship

Are you studying supply chain management, logistics, environmental studies or commerce and looking for a 6-month internship possibility? Are you excited about the ways product-producing companies can collaborate with their retail customers and keen to see what this looks like in practice, concerning logistics? Do you find climate change an important topic and want to work towards reducing emissions? If all your replies to the previous questions are YES, then we have an interesting internship opportunity for you!

Scope and the main areas of work for this internship:

  • Research & Analysis: Desktop research on current practices and trends of retail organisations’ engagement with multinationals linked to logistics carbon emissions savings
  • Benchmarking: Reviewing and identifying current good practices at HEINEKEN Operating Companies, including identification of best practices and listing main possibilities and limitations of collaborations. Deep dive and review current best practices of selected retail organisations (located in Europe and potentially in Mexico)
  • Recommendations: Provide a list of recommendations on potential approaches to collaboration with retail customers that have reasonable potential for logistics emissions reductions

Approach:

  • There is no specific project that the intern would need to contribute to. The output of this internship would be a base for: (1) future guidance and/or (2) best practice database, and/or (3) potential pilot projects for execution.
  • The exact methodology and approach are to be determined in collaboration with the intern, and, where possible, with the supervisors of the intern.
  • The intern would work in the Global Customer Service and Logistics team of HEINEKEN, under the supervision of the Net Zero Logistics, Global Lead. Furthermore it would also engage with other departments such as Commerce, and if relevant some of HEINEKEN’s local Operating Companies.

During your internship, you will get the opportunity to get to know HEINEKEN as a company, also outside your department. We give you the trust and freedom, so you can work like a real entrepreneur. We like to bring the outside world inside and therefore we embrace new, fresh ideas with enthusiasm. Of course, always with the guidance that is right for you.

The department

You’ll find the Global Customer Service and Logistics team at HEINEKEN to be a welcoming and enthusiastic group to work with. The team fosters a supportive culture where people help each other and aren’t afraid to give honest, constructive feedback. The scope of the internship would call for a true collaboration between the customer service, logistics, and, to some extent, with the commerce colleagues. It would also relate not only to the work of global colleagues, but would also engage on some level (regional and) local / HEINEKEN Operated Companies.

The terms of employment

  • Your starting date is 1 September 2025
  • The internship is could be either full-time or part-time
  • The duration of the internship is 5 or 6 months
  • It is a practice-oriented internship which can also include theoretical elements
  • You will be based in the Schiphol office of HEINEKEN
  • During your internship, you have the flexibility to work in a hybrid setup
  • You will receive an internship fee of €650 gross pm based on 40 hours per week
  • You will enjoy 2 vacation days per month (based on fulltime)
  • If you do not have a student OV product, your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed

The unique you!

We believe everyone brings something valuable to the table. You don’t need to tick every box — we’re looking for curious, motivated minds who want to learn and contribute. We would love to hear from you if you are:

  • Currently pursuing an HBO (bachelor’s) or WO (masters) degree in supply chain management, logistics, environmental studies or commerce. It is essential to have basic knowledge of one or more of these areas of expertise.
  • Interested in sustainable freight or vertical logistics collaborations.
  • Enjoy research, analysis, and turning insights into practical recommendations.
  • Interested in, and driven by finding ways to reduce logistics emissions via collaboration
  • Ready to learn how carbon emissions calculations work in logistics, and how collaboration with retail partners works in real life. Moreover, interested in unlocking internal collaborations in a multinational company.
