We are currently looking for a Mechanical Architect to join the team in Delft.

As a Mechanical Architect, your job will focus on leading the mechanical development of optical systems for space applications, ensuring a seamless transition from concept to production. You will take ownership of the mechanical design process, balancing technical performance with cost-effective manufacturing, and play an integral role in shaping our products and processes as we grow.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design products, balancing technical performance and cost efficiency for volume manufacturing
  • Coordinate and manage suppliers and subcontractors from a mechanical engineering perspective
  • Support the preparation of customer offers, tenders, and subsidy projects, providing input on mechanical design aspects
  • Collaborate with the definition and implementation of design standards across engineering teams to ensure quality and consistency
  • Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps for all product lines
  • Iterate and transfer designs to our manufacturing partner for series production
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of optical, control, systems, electrical, and software engineers
  • Engage in both conceptual architecture development and hands-on CAD work when needed
  • Help set up and maintain the CAD and PLM infrastructure
  • Support the setup of production facilities and factory workflows

Requirements

  • A degree at HBO or WO level, preferably in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role within the space or high-tech industries
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools, including Siemens Teamcenter/NX and/or SolidWorks
  • Strong knowledge of fine mechanical construction, precision opto-mechanical design, and DFX principles
  • Able to lead discussions with suppliers, translating requirements into effective mechanical solutions
  • Solid understanding of design choices and their impact on cost in volume production
  • Entrepreneurial and creative mindset, with the ability to transform challenges into technical solutions
  • Independent, pragmatic, and proactive, with a strong drive to contribute to company growth
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Dutch is a plus but not required
  • Team player with a hands-on attitude, solution-oriented approach, and strong communication skills
