How you can
make a difference

Are you passionate about driving real impact on climate risk and sustainability? At Ahold Delhaize, we’re looking for a forward-thinking Risk & Assurance professional to lead our climate risk agenda and strengthen sustainability governance across our global operations.

We’re Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Together with our 17 strong local retail brands in the United States, Europe and Indonesia, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of our brands’ customers, our people and the world around us. We offer a highly dynamic, international work environment in which our associates thrive.

In this high-impact role, you’ll collaborate with diverse teams across the business—ranging from Sustainability and Finance to Legal and Brand leadership. You’ll lead critical assessments, guide strategic decision-making, and help us meet the increasing demands of climate-related reporting and regulation. If you're energized by complexity, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to influence at every level of the organization, we want to hear from you.

Your new work environment
As Manager Risk & Controls - Sustainability for Group position you can make a difference by proactively identifying and managing climate and nature. You will be a key player in the team of R&C Managers, closely collaborating with the Health & Sustainability team, the External Reporting team and the BPP team, further developing the companies approach to Climate & Nature Risk Management. You will explore risk hotspots in our asset portfolio’s and value chain and source data and provide input for climate-related stress testing and scenario analysis. You will articulate climate and nature risks and opportunities; support the formalization of adaptation, mitigation and resilience-building efforts; enhance the Environmental, Sustainability and Governmental (ESG) and climate-related internal control framework.

With your analytical and strong communication skills, you distill climate and nature risk analyses into clear reports, trainings and communications to drive climate-related disclosures in line with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EU Taxonomy Regulation, and CDP, among other relevant mandatory and voluntary disclosure frameworks.

You will be given the freedom and responsibility to take ownership of your work and broaden your horizons by working together with knowledgeable colleagues from different countries who have an abundance of expertise in many areas. We will continuously support you and help you build on your talents and skills for the future.

Your role is highly diverse and encompasses various responsibilities. Here are the key ones:
Climate Risk Management

  • Lead climate risk assessments (physical & transition) for operations and value chain.
  • Develop and implement climate adaptation and mitigation plans.
  • Conduct scenario analyses and support strategy development with global stakeholders.
  • Manage climate risk tools, vendors, and data privacy in collaboration with Legal, IT, and Finance.

Analysis, Reporting & Policy

  • Deliver clear climate risk insights through reports and presentations.
  • Contribute to voluntary and regulatory disclosures (e.g., CDP, CSRD, Annual Report).
  • Monitor and update global sustainability-related policies and standards.

Training & Engagement

  • Facilitate workshops to build climate risk awareness and capability across teams.
  • Coordinate data collection and engagement with brand teams.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to align on climate strategy and governance.

Internal Control & Assurance

  • Define and maintain sustainability-related controls and frameworks.
  • Support assurance readiness for sustainability topics and external audits.
  • Monitor internal controls and support functions on risk mitigation and compliance.

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Represent Ahold Delhaize in external climate risk forums and webinars.
  • Support ad-hoc projects tied to sustainability KPIs, EU taxonomy, TNFD, and more.
  • Coordinate and lead engagement with brand teams for data collection, risk analyses and circulation of results.

What’s in it for you?
Aside from what we ask of you in this role, we also have a great deal to offer you: plenty of growth opportunities and various cross-brand career options; flexible working hours; a hybrid working model (we ask you to spend at least 50% of your working time at the office); and the chance to drive meaningful change on a global scale. You can look forward to a good work-life balance, and the chance to work in an inclusive environment that wholeheartedly encourages growth and welcomes you just the way you are.Plus:

  • A gross annual salary of €80.000 to €90.000 based on full-time employment
  • Attractive bonuses
  • A first-rate pension plan
  • 20 vacation days and the option to buy an additional 12,5 days from your personal ‘flex budget’
  • Travel expenses or an NS travel card
  • A laptop and smartphone

We think you’ll be best geared for success if you meet the following requirements:

  • Master Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Sustainable Development or related field. Experience on Big 4 or Sustainability Consultancy is required. Experience on at least manager level is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in finance, risk management, reporting, sustainability, or a related field. (Experience in climate or sustainability within international retail is a strong plus.)
  • Proven project management skills and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • Hands-on experience with climate risk assessments and a solid understanding of sustainability regulations and reporting standards (both voluntary and mandatory).
  • Strong communicator with a track record of delivering impactful training sessions to large groups.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of climate and sustainability trends, tools, and frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (in English)
  • Builds relationships across cultures and functions
  • Strategic mindset with a bias for action
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with financial systems
  • Applies knowledge to complex projects and processes
