About the Role: Apollo is seeking an exceptional Android Engineer to join our Netherlands-based Engineering team and help us develop and improve the technology that drives our operations. In this role, you will be implementing practical and pragmatic solutions to real-world problems. Apollo is active in some of the most remote and underserved areas on earth, and we are often required to innovate to handle unusual challenges… truly engineering at the edge! We are a small and motivated team, where everyone has considerable ownership and responsibility. In this role, you will work directly with different teams across the company to enable the distribution of high-quality agricultural inputs to tens of thousands of smallholder farmers annually.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain effective, scalable Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and the library ecosystem, and the build and deployment models
• Develop easy and intuitive UX for our Field Officers and Farmers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of impactful features
• Embrace a product engineer mindset, balancing ideal architecture with the realities of a fast-paced startup environment.
• Actively participate in creating a positive impact on the lives of smallholder farmers through technology.

You:

• Are excited about the mission of transforming the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
• Are a creative problem solver, and are excited to innovate where technology doesn’t work as usual. Some of our challenges include developing apps for environments with poor or non-existent cell phone coverage and limited quality mobile phone hardware.
• Have a solid background in writing software. This typically means you have 5+ years of professional software development experience at a fast-growing technology company.
• Are comfortable building backends in at least one language. While you don't have to be an expert with the backend, we expect you to be comfortable changing our APIs to ship the features you need
• Have knowledge of cloud computing fundamentals, preferably AWS.
• Have production experience with SQL databases, including data modeling, writing performant queries, etc.
• Are an exceptional writer and communicator. You can turn technical challenges and solutions into digestible technical documents and proposals to seek alignment and enable efficient technical decision-making.
• You are a tireless problem solver who can roll up your sleeves to tackle whatever challenges need urgent attention, no matter when they arise. You have a “whatever it takes” attitude and are comfortable engaging peers across different teams to get the job done.
