Engineering Internship: Design for Cost Optimization of EUV Machines

Introduction

Within ASML, the Machine Conditioning (MC) department is responsible for conditioning our lithography machines. Our objective is to precisely control the temperature of the critical areas in the machine and to keep products clean of particle and chemical contamination. Besides this, we control the vacuum in our EUV tool, which is also a part of our responsibility. This is accomplished by systems with controlled water cooling and controlled ultra-high purity gas flows. You work with temperature control and gas conditioning, which is essential in reducing the environmental footprint of our machines – an essential part of our sustainability goals.

Your Assignment

As an intern in our team, you will work on an interesting assignment that deals with gas and water manifolds, piping, sensors, and vacuum feedthroughs.

Some of your tasks will include:

  • Identify cost drivers in the existing design(s);
  • Gather input from internal experts and external suppliers;
  • Propose design changes and review them with appropriate stakeholders;
  • Document and present your proposals;
  • Implement the proposed design changes.

This is a Bachelor/Master apprentice internship (non-thesis) for a duration of 5-6 months working 4-5 days per week (3 days onsite). The start date of this internship is as soon as possible, or the latest around September.

Your Profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

  • Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, etc.);
  • Are proactive and result-oriented;
  • Are interested in working in a technical environment;
  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
