Robeco is an international asset manager offering an extensive range of active investments, from bonds to equities. We manage around €170 bn assets under management. The Fixed Income & Multi Asset (FI & MA) teams manage around €67 bn of these assets. They are supported by a team of 5 Operational Portfolio Managers, based in Rotterdam. The Operational Portfolio Management (OPM) team can be described as the linking pin between Investments and all other relevant stakeholders within Robeco, such as Risk Management, Client Services, IT, Data Management and Back Office Oversight. Naturally, they are also in close contact with our Fixed Income and FX Trading Desk. By making sure the operational portfolio management processes run smoothly and flawless the portfolio managers can focus on creating outperformance for our funds. The OPM team is positioned at the dynamic center of portfolio management within the front office and this role will give you a broad view of different portfolio management, portfolio construction and other investment management activities and processes.

Job description

As an operational portfolio manager within the Fixed Income and Multi-Asset OPM team you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing the work for our FI & MA portfolio management teams. Your focus will be on:

  • The efficient & centralized implementation of daily portfolio monitoring (e.g. duration & FX exposure, cash forecasts), portfolio construction and order generation, including cash flows, and the onboarding of new accounts;
  • Helping to prevent (compliance) breaches of restrictions by assessing pre-trade compliance alerts;
  • Using technology to achieve scalability, reduce operational risk and initiate innovation in the investments domain;
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and control of the Fixed Income and Multi Asset value chain from Front-to-Back including the development and maintenance of policies and frameworks that underlie these processes;
  • Assisting in the implementation of new investment products, instruments or customized client requests, for example ETF’s and option instruments;
  • Acting as collaborative partner for portfolio managers on all operational aspects of the investment management process.

Position & Requirements

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative team, brings a structured and thoughtful approach to their work and is motivated to grow in the role.

  • (Applied) Bachelor’s (HBO) or Master’s degree
  • Understanding of fixed income investments and financial instruments, experience in the asset management industry is considered a plus.
  • A team player with a practical mindset who values learning, trust and open feedback.
  • Pro-active and pragmatic. You are comfortable working independently, but not afraid to ask for input when needed. You are mindful of operational risks.
  • Strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mind.
  • Analytical skills: you are able to connect and analyze dependencies between several processes and identify and implement process improvements where needed
  • Comfortable handling dynamic situations and able to shift between tasks during the day.
  • Clear and effective communication skills (mainly in English), both spoken and written as you collaborate with various departments.
  • You have a strong affinity with IT and tooling in general; knowledge of portfolio management tooling Charles River and/or Imagine is considered a plus
  • Strong interest in IT Architecture regarding the complete Front Office value chain
  • Ideally, you bring several years of experience, but we also welcome candidates with less experience who are eager to grow.
