Dit ga jij doen

As a principal scientist for foam at Tata Steel in IJmuiden, you will drive technical advancements for PIR Foam systems used in sandwich panels within the construction industry. You’ll spearhead the development and use of a new state-of-the-art lab facility while overseeing product improvements and developing future insulation solutions.

You will collaborate with three production sites in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany, identifying areas to enhance current products and testing new formulas for future innovations. Your focus will be on improving performance in areas like fire-testing, thermal conductivity, and product quality, allowing for greater differentiation. Long-term, you'll develop sustainable solutions with bio-based or recyclable components, as well as explore new insulation materials.

As principal scientist at Tata Steel:

• Collaboration is key: You will work closely with the R&D team in IJmuiden and with production sites in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
• You will focus on innovation: Identify opportunities for product improvements and develop new formulas for future insulation solutions, including bio-based and recyclable components.
• Lead R&D efforts: You’ll manage internal and external research programs and drive lab-scale developments, utilizing the new facility to its full potential.

You are self-motivated and capable of working independently with a strong analytical mindset. You have the ability to clearly translate technical opportunities, activities, and results into tangible business objectives, ensuring alignment with broader company goals. You can also report and present your findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner, effectively communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You also have:

• A Master’s or PhD level, preferably in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 10-15 years of experience in the relevant rigid foam PIR/PU industry and sector.
• A strong command of Dutch, German, and English.

Jouw werkomgeving

TSN Building Systems is one of five businesses within the ‘Downstream’ leg of Tata Steel Nederland. You will be part of the central IDS (Innovation, Development, Sustainability) group within Building Systems. IDS provides knowledge and expertise to all 3 Building Systems businesses (Fischer Profil, SAB Profiel, Montana Bausysteme).

As a key member of the cross-business Foam Team, you will be mainly based at SAB in Geldermalsen (location of our central foam laboratory and also production facilities). Otherwise you will be visiting our other sites (Germany, Switzerland, and the TSN headquarters in IJmuiden), or external partners & suppliers to review work packages, results, and future directions.
