Microfluidics Engineer

Introduction

At LUMICKS, we’re revolutionizing cell-cell interaction and single-molecule research, and we need your expertise to help us push boundaries even further. We’re seeking a talented Microfluidics Engineer to join our innovative team in Amsterdam.

Your Mission:

You’ll be at the forefront of advancing our groundbreaking Cellular Avidity (CA) and Dynamic Single-Molecule (DSM) platforms. Working within multi-disciplinary product teams, you’ll transform concepts into cutting-edge solutions that scientists worldwide rely on for breakthrough discoveries.

Your Impact:

Your work will directly empower researchers to make discoveries that were previously impossible, potentially accelerating breakthroughs in disease understanding and therapeutic development. You’ll have the unique opportunity to shape cutting-edge technology from concept to reality.

What are my tasks and responsibilities?

  • Design and develop next-generation microfluidic systems for our flagship Avidion® and C-Trap® instruments.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of optical, mechanical, and electronic engineers, software developers, data scientists, system architects, application specialists and product managers.
  • Translate high-level product requirements into clear component requirements and specifications.
  • Bridge scientific theory and practical application to create elegant, functional solutions.
  • Write clear specifications and manage communication with component suppliers and third-parties for outsourcing development of sub-modules.
  • Design experiments and develop and execute test plans.
  • Provide relevant technical documentation.
  • Contribute to prototype development that will shape the future of cell-cell interaction and single-molecule research.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • BSc or MSc degree in Biophysics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with focus on Microfluidics. At least 2 years of working experience in industry.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills and analytical ability.
  • Proven experience designing and fabricating microfluidic devices and systems.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics at micro and nano scales and ability to model.
  • Experience with microfabrication, rapid prototyping (3D printing, soft lithography, laser cutting, …) and microscopy techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills (in English) with the ability to effectively interface with suppliers, cross-functional engineering teams, and stakeholders across all organizational levels. Capable of conveying technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of materials used in microfluidics (PDMS, glass, polymers).
  • Familiarity with surface chemistry and biofunctionalization methods.
  • Experience with integration of microfluidics with optical, electrical, or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of lab automation and high-throughput systems, experience with quality assurance test strategies and frameworks, Python scripting and knowledge of biological sample handling are all beneficial to your application.
