Enabling the Engagement Banking Journey through AI and Event Driven Processes

Backbase provides an engagement banking platform, a central system of engagement that orchestrates frictionless experiences across all touchpoints. This enables financial institutions to engage with their customers in the most personalized and cost-effective way at every stage of the customer lifecycle.

The vision for the Intelligent Process Orchestration is to become the leading Business Process Orchestration Service within Engagement Banking for Financial Institutions (FIs) around the world. The goal is to be the preferred partner to improve and automate business processes where engagement with the customer is key. Think about onboarding, origination, disputes, and other customer servicing processes, enabled by an event-driven architecture and AI technologies.

The Job in Short

As a Senior Domain Architect, you own the end-to-end architecture for the Intelligent Process Orchestration (IPO) platform. As part of your role, you will work with a range of stakeholders - spanning engineering and product - to design and continuously enhance the current and future product features and supporting architecture.

Your primary objective is to work with product owners and engineers in the product teams to translate functional and non-functional requirements into a coherent logical and solution component architecture, accountable for its overall design, supporting the implementation and testing where applicable. You will align the IPO architecture with the teams that are designing and building processes on it, like customer onboarding, product originations, and any servicing processes that are part of the product and feedback from the field where additional processes will be built using the platform. You will also help shape product roadmaps which are typically created by product managers and the product director.

You will be responsible for defining the non-functional requirements for the functionality in scope: security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and integration. You will play an architecture leadership role in cooperation with the (lead-) principal engineer(s) who are in charge of the solution designs (platform-wide solutions and component solutions in teams). So you are part of a winning triangle: product management, architecture, and lead engineering.

What You'll Do

You'll be responsible for executing on the vision and product requirements of the Intelligent Process Orchestration platform on top of the evolving Backbase platform, taking the functional and non-functional requirements into account. You will be working with fellow Architects in other domains such as Digital Sales, Digital Assist, Digital Banking, Identity, etc., to define how we create and evolve the functionality and integration into the wider engagement banking platform. You will collaborate with product stakeholders to influence prioritization in a product-led manner.

You will spend time with our internal and external project implementation teams to understand their challenges, gathering insights into how to solve problems and improve product performance. As the architecture leader, you support the product director with the translation of customer opportunities and pain points into product requirements, creating logical and solution component architecture(s) which are further detailed into solution designs by (lead-) principal engineer(s).

Who You Are

As a senior domain architect you are able to:

  • Analyze complex problems by breaking them down into manageable parts and examining them systematically. Independently apply analytical thinking to solve a wide range of problems across different domains;
  • Able to establish a relation with applicable stakeholder(s) early in the architecture process, and co-create the deliverable;
  • Review the deliverable with peer architects and lead principal engineers, the architecture oversight group, and govern it during its entire lifecycle;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, engineering leaders, engineering and implementation teams, and engineering leaders to drive collaboration, alignment, and support for architectural decisions;
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance on domain-specific architectural principles, best practices, design patterns, and industry standards; Mentor junior staff, and guide (lead-) principal engineers;
  • Collaborate with product management to support the definition of product roadmaps and align architectural decisions with product goals and market demands, taking non-functional requirements into account.

Able to advise on strategic initiatives that align with business goals; Understanding and applying knowledge of the financial industry domain; Able to use reference architecture like BIAN into the architecture process.

As you are working in a software product company and will be working on cutting-edge AI and Event-driven Business Process Orchestration, we expect the following technological knowledge or experience of:

  • Business Process Orchestration and Event Driven Architecture;
  • Enterprise-grade solution topics; Service Oriented Architecture, Application server platforms, Cloud-native, Upgrade strategies, High performing architectures, Integration (and decoupling) technologies;
  • Applying open-source components and frameworks;
  • Any additional experience with AI Automation is welcome.

A Cloud-native, Microservices Architecture underpins our Backend services and exposes our RESTful APIs. Our containerized applications are managed by Kubernetes on our Backbase-as-a-Service cloud offering, or at our customers’ private Cloud. We are big adopters of open-source frameworks and libraries. When suitable, we choose to use and contribute to open-source applications and platforms to get to value quicker and leverage the community expertise. On the web, we are running Angular and we deliver iOS and Android applications and components.
