About the job

Join Our Journey Towards Fossil-Free Living as a Senior SCADA Engineer – Batteries & Solar

At Vattenfall, one of Europe's largest generators of electricity, we're on a mission to make fossil-free living possible within one generation. Within the Business Unit Solar & Batteries, we develop, construct, and operate utility-scale solar photovoltaic and BESS (battery energy storage system) assets.

This role will be placed in our BESS Engineering circle, which is the technical backbone to deliver high-performing and cost-effective BESS assets from assumptions to reality. We are a self-organized, dynamic team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation in renewable energy storage.

What You Will Do:

As the Senior SCADA Engineer, you will play a key role in defining, optimizing, and securing our SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system architecture. You’ll provide technical solutions across the entire project portfolio, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • SCADA System Architecture & Implementation: Define and optimize SCADA systems & architecture for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in hybrid and standalone configurations, ensuring system performance, security, and financial factors.
  • Grid Compliance & Cybersecurity: Ensure SCADA solutions meet grid code requirements in Germany, the Netherlands, UK, and Sweden while adhering to cybersecurity regulations for critical infrastructure.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal and external stakeholders—including suppliers, grid operators, and asset managers—to translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Market & Technology Assessment: Evaluate and select SCADA solutions, adapting them to individual projects and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Data Acquisition & Management: Develop and implement a strategy for seamless data collection, integration, and accessibility from multiple sources, ensuring high data quality to support monitoring, reporting, and analytics.
  • Project Execution & Troubleshooting: Oversee system design, commissioning, and integration, down to data points and connections. Support asset management teams in failure analysis and troubleshooting.

Your profile

What We Ask From You:

  • A Master’s degree (preferred) or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Control & Automation, Information Technology, or similar
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in SCADA systems, preferably in the renewables sector (BESS & Solar) and/or utility business
  • Profound knowledge of monitoring & control architecture for renewable energy assets and cybersecurity concepts
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, international team.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal. German is a plus.

Who You Are

Bringing a passion for sustainability, you are a collaborative and dynamic individual who thrives in an innovative, fast-paced, and sometimes ambiguous environment. You value teamwork and have excellent analytical and communication skills, allowing you to work effectively with diverse groups and stakeholders. Empowered and self-organized, you like to take ownership of high-impact projects with a high degree of responsibility within a supportive team environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Purpose-Driven Work: Contribute directly to a fossil-free future through innovative renewable energy solutions.
  • Collaborative Environment: Be part of a self-organized, empowered team that values inclusivity, autonomy, and shared success.
  • Opportunities for Growth: Build on your technical expertise while developing your skills for future career advancement.
  • Competitive Compensation: Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your professional and personal well-being.

If you’re ready to take on a significant role and help us drive SCADA excellence in the battery energy storage industry, we’d love to hear from you!
