The Digital Infrastructure department at the KNAW Humanities Cluster in Amsterdam is looking for a Senior Dev/Ops engineer, 38 hours per week (1.0 FTE).

Job description

• We are looking to strengthen our dev/ops team. We design and build or use open-source software and share information about our digital infrastructure. The goal is to be and stay flexible with the infrastructure without losing sight of the long term. We are saving and serving a lot of (heritage) data for the public domain and our academic colleagues within the humanities and social sciences to address new research questions using innovative new technical methods.
• You will be working on a broad spectrum of applications and infrastructure for the short and long term. You will support other expertise-teams in optimizing their applications for use in our infrastructure and/or optimize/renew the infrastructure to facilitate new requirements.
• You will be flexible to adopt other techniques and programming languages or able to migrate older applications to a solution which can be maintained and supported.

Skills we are looking for:

• Worked with Linux
• Worked with e.g. Bash, Html, Java, Python,
• Worked with Docker, Kubernetes, Vm platforms, CI/CD, git, Docker-registries, docker-compose
• Worked with a range of DBMSs, e.g., PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Mongodb
• Worked with storage transport protocols/file systems e.g. S3, nfs, webdav, sftp, smb, zfs, xfs, ext4
• Knowledge about network infrastructure components like switches, firewall, vpn, vlan etc
• Other things that are useful but can be learned: ansible and/or terraform, PHP, MacOSx, Windows server/workstation Os, temporal, webhosting platforms, CMS, node-js, OAIS
• Fluency in English (Understanding the Dutch Language is appreciated)
• More than 5 years of dev/ops experience (Senior)
• As a senior able to coordinate/organize a technical project or bigger task.

In return, we can provide:

The appointment at the HuC Digital Infrastructure department is for 38 hours a week for an initial period of 12-month contract with the prospect of a permanent position. Depending on your qualifications and experience, the salary amounts to at least € 2.960,00 and € 4.670,00 (scale 10, CAO NU) or € 3.974,00 and € 5.439,00 gross per month (scale 11, CAO NU) for full-time employment. This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance, and pension accrual with ABP. The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle, or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).

Formally you will be part of the Concern-infrastructure team, in a department made up of a group of circa 35, generally awesome, international, smart people. You will work together with humanities and social science researchers from the three Humanities Cluster institutes and other KNAW institutes and IT teams.

The HuC was formed in 2016 by three internationally leading research institutes in the social sciences and humanities: The Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands, the Meertens Institute, and the International Institute for Social History (IISH).
