Postdoc on Turbulence Distortion Studies of Rotors in Corners and in Vortex-Ring State

Postdoc position on development of impedance eduction techniques at NLR/TUDelft

Job description

The postdoc will work in the ERC funded project MORASINA, for the study of the distortion of rotors in proximity to surfaces. The postdoc will join a Team of 3 PhDs. The candidate will carry out the following activities:

  1. Experimentally study the flow pattern distortion of rotors in close proximity to corners in vertical take-off and descent phase.
  2. Help in the development of an acoustic controller to anticipate the unsafe and uncontrollable delays based on a neural-network approach informed with the parameters of the vehicle.
  3. Innovate with the development of rotors insensitive to turbulence by using a genetic algorithm as profile generator.

Requirements

The candidate should have:

  • A PhD in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics, an area relevant to the subject,
  • Good analytical skills and a strong interest in performing experiments is required.
  • A solid knowledge of signal processing and mathematical theories,
  • Advanced programming skills are advantageous for these positions.

As the project is part of a larger research program, practical interactions and collaborative skills are important too.
