Research Specialist Life Cycle Assessment

For FrieslandCampina’s sustainability organization we are looking for a driven LCA specialist who would like to contribute to sustainability and join the FrieslandCampina Global Expert Team on its Sustainability Program on Farm, Science, Innovation and Application.

The Global Expert Team focuses on generating science-based facts and insights FrieslandCampina and its dairy farmers can use to reduce their environmental impact by using life cycle assessments. The team collaborates with the external world and assesses the feasibility of environmental impact measures to reduce emissions, their contribution to improving biodiversity, and possibilities to contribute to regenerative agriculture. Furthermore, the team also contributes to delivering insight on reducing GHG emissions in FrieslandCampina’s supply chain as well as what the environmental impact is on product-level. As part of this team, you will be working on life cycle analyses cradle-to-factory gate.

What we ask

  • Experience in Life Cycle Assessment
  • Bring unique combination of analytical and visionary/strategic skills on climate and nature action
  • Academic degree, preferably a PhD, in Environmental, Agriculture, Animal, Food sciences or other Life Sciences related areas
  • At least 3 years of working experience in Life Cycle Assessment in environmental (business) research or at least 5 years working experience in environmental research/consultancy
  • Knowledge of existing standards and hands-on experience with expert groups that develop these is considered an advantage
  • Able to assess, improve and enrich current LCA methodology
  • Excellent good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Able to collaborate with (senior) management
  • Team player with the following key competences: broad view and interest, green drive, pragmatic, open, analytical, result-oriented, convincing, collaborative, eagerness to understand and teach others
  • Fluent in English

Vacancy description

You are part of the Expert Team in Sustainability Data & Science and work closely together with experts and scientists of this team, R&D experts, the Corporate Sustainability team, and the business. Besides your direct colleagues, you also work together with disciplines across FrieslandCampina in need of LCA support. Within FrieslandCampina, we are experienced with LCA for years and we analyze yearly the data of our farmers to follow progress and identify, often jointly with them, measures to reduce environmental impact. As Research Specialist LCA your tasks and responsibilities amongst others will be:

  • Building the tools and means to use LCA analyses to deliver the necessary insights to the company for sustainable decision-making e.g., on target setting, farm practices, product development, dairy processing, and consumer communication.
  • Giving advice and placing things in a broader perspective
  • Play a role in internal and external networks
  • Keep up with developments and (co)design novel methodologies
  • Report and present to people of different layers and backgrounds in the organization
  • Guiding and teaching others
  • Documenting fact and science-based outcomes in reports and/or publications
